    Lightbulb RP Turbo K04 Car Consolidation Thread

    Hey all. Since it seems as though everyone with RP's is in hiding (or haven't posted), this thread is to have all those owners post up their experience, be it good or bad. This is for the progression of the community and for others to learn.

    Some things that you should mention:
    -mile's since install
    -how you're running them (stage 2+, stage 3-, full blown stage 3)
    -boost level that you are using the turbos at (PSI)
    -any problems
    -quality of the turbos
    -feel free to mention other things about the turbos as well

    Thanks guys! Hopefully this thread will help those make the decision to purchase RP K04s in the future.

    I've got approximately 50 miles on mine so far. If I didn't have a coolant leak to deal with, I'd have thousands. I'm running a full blown SSP stage 3 tune and have hit the peak of my boost gauge (25 psi). Quality of the turbos *seemed* just fine - hopefully that's it. I'll write a much better report once I get this coolant leak fixed and put some miles on which should be soon.. I plan on getting dyno'd ASAP and will do some logs.

    my car is in the shop now rp ko4s apr stage 3 ill post next week when its out.i went today to check it out the motor was out and one turbo was on so its almost done.ill post video on youtube and ill link it to this thread.ill add that i have piggies apr srt exhaust rs4 mounts apr snub mount gaskets on motor are all done timing belt kit baily dvs and a few other things.by june ill have a bbk and suspension done and that all i want to do to it until something breaks.its my dd and thats about it.

    Have some RP's on hand that will be going on a 2.8 build up on most likely VAST or ASP fueling.

    I have mine mocked up to the motor, but have to take the drivers side off to grind the housing to fit the coolant supply banjo bolt... The rest of the fit was spot on :-)

    I am doing the RP K04's, Vast Stage 3 Clutch, LWFW, piggies, SSAC cat back, FMIC (may wait till later to do, but have the parts already), Blitz boost gauge / turbo timer, silicone hose kit, 710n's, timing belt, water pump, thermostat, after run pump, alternator, starter, ceramic coated manifolds, rebuilt Transmission, B&M short shifter.

    What! All that and no mounts??

    mostly the same as above minus the sex change (rebuilt trany), and fmic.
    Add JHM shifter trio and 034 track mounts all around, coil overs, control arms, painted calipers, RMS and all seals, snub + cage, avic z110bt, weighted stock knob, piano black trim
    Sub ssac downpipes, ASP fueling


    I've had them on for 1.5k no issues but most of that was break in. Oh yeah, after break in I was only pushing like 11lbs of boost due to a massive leak caused by me cross threading the boost reference line. The turbo is back from the machine shop and installed. I am just waiting on my rear cam caps to come in tomorrow to put everything back in and see what stage 3 feels like, hell what a new car feels like.

    The trans mounts were replaced just before the car was taken apart. The stock motor mounts looked just as fresh. My friend who is helping with the build has access to a lift and can bang out doing the mounts in no time, so I was planning on waiting till I kill the stock ones, unless I hit the lottery, then all bets are off and I'll go nutz with my baby

    i have had them on for 4000 miles. Full stage 3 ssp tune. Dont know about the boost because my boost gauge is broken ATM. Everything seems good so far, crossing my fingers.

    FYI - you don't have to grind the housing on the driver's side. I had my wife come out and help me get that bolt lined up. It was frustrating and took forever, but I think that's better than grinding.

    kenan, your wife is a better man than I, haha. I screwed that thing 7 ways to sunday... no dice. So glad I did do the grinding since I had to remove it twice since.

    Get your coolant plugged up so you can give a review on these RPs

    Well she DOES have the GI Joe Kung Fu grip.

    I can't wait to get this coolant leak taken care of. Maybe tomorrow...if only.

    I get mine tomorrow according to UPS online Tracking.

    I already have 710N's and GIAC XR chip on my A6

    I ordered:
    - RP k04's along with the 034 inlets,
    - 034 mounts (snub, motor, and trans) all street density all from Clay @ CTS Turbo.
    - timing belt with all accessories (water pump, aux pump, thermostat, etc...).
    - Also Sam from 517 Trans had shipped my TC today so hopefully I'll have all parts this week and start the install.

    Will be removing the stock down pipes and throwing in custom 3" dp's as well

    I can't wait to get this thing on the road, been waiting on the turbos for a month now because they were out of stock

    My car is an 01 A6 2.7T tip btw...

    I'll keep you guys informed about how they hold up so others could finally benefit from this.

    well i was originally doing a 3.0 GT car, then things took a turn for the worse. I got a deal on this brand new 2.8 built block. it had been 6 months since i had driven my car and the show season is coming up FAST. So i got the idea of using the 2.8 block with 2.8 heads and k04s for now. GREAT for the track for all the low end and should still be faster than your average k04 car.

    Yeah i do have a build thread although ill be the first to tell you its not the greatest of them. Soon ill be updating it when i pick up the motor from 034.

    was wondering exact same thing... why build engine, especially 2.8L for K04? people are too cheap spend $800 for proper BW K04's but spending at least $2K+ more to buid engine????????? how does that make sense?

    ....50-100 NEVER gets old.... ive seriously never talked to other stage 3 owners about 0-60.. its always been from 50-110 or something.. but thats cool, stage 2 is fast, definitely fun for a street car, but stage 3 power is retarded.. it doesnt get old..

    oh.. well thats cool. do you have a different compression ratio? they arent as strong as the turbo blocks are they? i guess with being built and all, you wont have to run the same boost to achieve the same power as a k04 stage 3 2.7, seeing as how youll have more compression.. i think i may have read about your build somewhere else.. you may get some serious power, depending on how far you can push that block.. oh well.. interesting build, i hope it goes well..

    Yeah, well 80MPH plus means go to jail in VA so that wouldn't even begin to be in my vocabulary unfortunately. As much fun as it is, VA State Troopers are dicks and love to give out reckless tickets!

    Do you own a pair of either brand K04?
    It costs more than 2k to rebuild and go to 2.8 btw.

    Washyourhands only went with the RPs because of money issues I believe..

    He had plans of putting GT's on, but something happened financially to cause him to sell the kit.. He's not THAT crazy!

    I picked up kylel2838's to replace a whinning k03 during some other repairs. No promise on the install time as I'm trying to pick up some fueling parts from the classifieds but not doing so hot on the replies from some of those posting parts for sale. I'm also in the middle of sourcing parts for the front end after a minivan blow out in front of me took out the front bumper cover, fan, condensor, radiator, etc. I'll post up as it goes.

    And thanks to kylel2838 for a straightforward, honest and quick transaction!
