Any good iPhone car integration kits?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I can't take all these cds floating around in my car anymore and I want to mount/run a wire to my head unit in my car. Anyone tried this out? Anyone seen any really clean installs?

    Thanks!

Re: Any good iPhone car integration kits?

Don't have a pic of it right now but I'll explain what I did in my car. I bought the $50 composite cable for the iPhone by apple. I have a touch screen which has aux input so I connected the composite cables to that(if you dont have a screen just connect the audio cables). Now I can listen to all my songs that I've loaded as well as pandora and any other streaming site. I can also play any youtube videos as well any videos loaded on the phone on the screen. The cable also has a usb charger on it which I hard-wired so that it charges the phone at the same time. I have the wire coming out of the top of the fusebox and I have a little vent mount on the vent to the left of the steering wheel. Easy access, doesn't get in my way for anything and when I want to use the maps, it's in good eye-sight.

This looks pretty promising. Is this a simple install and then the iPhone works seamlessly? Thoughts?

Seriously, $300 is waayyy too much. To the OP, assumed you had an aftermarket head unit earlier, my bad. With the stock one I suggest what ScaryGary said. Haven't used it myself but I've heard many people say they love it.

Re: Any good iPhone car integration kits?

yes sir... It's what I use.

I believe the precise model is the dice "i-audi-r"

I found it on amazon by searching that exact model and I found one that ships for free from "pacific audio" or something like that.

If you do get it, the best way to set the dip switches is so that you can still control the ipod itself or "unlocked" as per the manual. the track buttons on the head unit still work to control the ipod or iphone, but you can use your ipod or iphone to pick the playlist you want.

    good luck

cool beans - just making sure because not all things that charge the old ones will charge the new ones/itouch.... stupid signals that it needs to charge. its no longer the basic usb signal, the cables are completely different now.

The reason being is because instead of just the regular 5 volt signal and ground there is now power going through the data signals of the cable as well. If you want to make a charger here you go:

    Click

I followed that when I hard-wired mine in using just a regular spare car charger instead of paying the $30 or so that bestbuy charges for one.

Also looking at the pics above, my only concern is: if you are pushing your car in the turns does the phone pop, out or is the dock deep enough for it to stay planted?

    yeahhhhh.... about that..

i know how to read it kind-of... but it's been a minute since i took classes on stuff like that in highschool hahaha. i'd have no idea where to start on actually making that and then finding a way to fit it in my car.

Oh also, you'll need a Dremmel tool and you'll need an LED light. They sell them at Autozone. You want the kind that is already wired.

Re: Any good iPhone car integration kits?

bmags - love the setup! I just got my i-Audi-r and I'm waiting to get the removal keys that I orderd from ebay. I was debating where to locate my iphone 3g. I'm also considering putting it in that little rectangular dock in front of my cig lighter, but I like yours better. Looking forward to the writeup. Please make sure you include directions on removing whatever dash pieces (ashtray cover?) and was it hard to route the cable? Thanks!

I will Def have it done by Friday night in-time for the weekend. Just an FYI...a Dremmel tool w/ a cutting wheel is a must for this project.

No problem - got a dremel last year and probably don't get enough chance to use it!

You mentioned dremel cutting the plexiglas. Do you have to cut any of the car?

Re: Any good iPhone car integration kits?

So I installed my i-Audi-R Dice kit for my Iphone 3g today. Everything seems to work, except that when I plug the iphone 3g into the cable, I get the "this is not compatible with 3g, do you want go into airplane mode" meaning turn off cell/data and use it just as an ipod. It also doesn't charge my iphone 3g.

When I ordered it, they told me to also purchase the new 5v cable which is used for the newer iphone 3g phones, which I did.

Have I missed something, or did they send me the wrong cable?

Re: Any good iPhone car integration kits?

i didnt need any special cable. I just bought the standard kit. My 3g charges and plays just fine. whenever you plug in the phone and get that warning message, just press "NO". It does not affect play either way.

I HAVE NO ISSUES WITH THIS PRODUCT AND MY 3G iPHONE!
calm the fuck down. it's all relative.

Re: Any good iPhone car integration kits?

So I wound up getting a replacement control box from Dice Electronics and that seemed to do the trick. Now I can access by iPhone 3g thru my Symphony II headset (no text mind you, just controls) and it charges, so I'm good to go.

I'm still anxious to see that write-up on the above install, as I'm still thinking about doing this. Please post.

    Thanks.

Sorry guys i guess i must have dumped my pictures of this process. With out them the write up would be a cluster F**k. Anyway i actually bought a set of 3G adapters so i'll be switching out the adapter this weekend which give me opportunity to take new pictures.

Can this work using normal usb? Say hook up an external HD or a windows mobile phone. I have a htc mogul with windows mobile 6.1. wonder if that mogul would work. I would imagine it would if the iphone works with it.

Actually, I just found something that may work. It a Bluetooth Hands-Free Car Kit. Has anybody had experience with these devices?

    Here's a link to one I found. http://www.htcdepot.com/motorola-t60.../9A93A3438.htm
