    custom rear valence DIY

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
well since ive gotten a rediculous amount of pm's about this ive decided to buy a valence off the classifieds and make a diy so i can share with my community

all you need is a rear valence from a b7 i used a valence from a non s-line b7 a4, you will also need a drill and a few self tapping screws,

once you get the valence you need to trim the clips that lock into the stock b7 bumper, here is a picture to compare how it looks before and how it should look after you trim it (make sure you do not trim the screw tabs on the bottom half of the valence

you want to make sure that the cuts are completely straight, i masked them off and trimmed the valence with a dremel

once you trim the edges proceed to your bumper and remove the 2 hex key screws on the bottom of your bumper. make sure you dont loose these 2 screws you will reuse them

now you can go ahead and line up the valence with your bumper, the exhaust cutouts will match perfectly and the valence will slide in place

once you get it in place make sure you put the screws back that you just took out, the screw tabs on the valence i mentions earlier will match up perfectly with them

now once you have that done take a look at this picture,
here you will see that there are 2 extra holes on the bottom valence, these holes will have to be made with the self tapping screws once the valence is on your bumper,
make sure to do this on both sides of the valence,

once this is done make sure the valence is in place and sturdy.

now take a step back and enjoy. this small and cheap mod will change the
    looks of your rear

now some1 needs to just come up with a good name for this mod

im sorry this isnt tthe best DIY but i tried so enjoy

hmm i dont know - looks a little 'rigged' in that 1st 'after' picture. Maybe its just because your bumper is a little dented up.

i like it! giving it the S4 look.

when you said you used the one from non s-line b7, is it just because that's the one you happen to find or the s-line one is different and won't work?

Youre the man. I wanted to get my rear bumper molded and try something like this. The s4 rear is just too much $$ for me now. Hopefully this will be a cheaper alternative. How much did the valence cost you?

i think bondo is known to crack when molding bumpers. i think body shops use a special product for things like this. i mean, i might be wrong but IIRC i believe thats what i found when i researched molding the bumper. i just need to find out what material it is that they use. but i believe bondo is too stiff for this.

    Re: custom rear valence DIY

thanks guys, im not sure about the part number but it was only like 40 bucks. it looks great up close every1 always thinks its an s4 rear nobody can tell, and i actually have a spare rear bumper in my garage that i am molding the seam and the valence onto to just keep you eyes peeled, should be done by the summer

also bondo will crack you need an actual plastic repair filler

also alexsa4, the non sline is what i came across im sure you can use it with any of those valences

    Re: custom rear valence DIY

Pretty sure the S-line rear valence is PAINTED to match the color of the car. NON S-Line is not painted and that grey/rough texture look like BeeSix has shown on his car.

This is a sweet mod, i will look into this for sure. But 1 question i have is that after screwing the new valence on on the bottom next to the exhaust like you have shown, whats holding the top of the valence on? or well holding it against the bumper? it seems like it would be loose and flap around a little since its not screwed on the top or well stuck. Prob a thin piece of 3M tape would solve this.

    Re: custom rear valence DIY

if you screw it in the bottom close enough to the body it will hold itselt up, i have been running this since last summer without any issues

Some big blobs of silicone on the inside of it and then masking tape it to the bumper over night will help keep it tight to the bumper where there is nothing to hold it.

On another note I have alway used Tiger Seal on jobs like this to great effect for holding things together on body work.

It looks like this can be fixed with thin rubber edging (like found on side skirts)
    What do you think?
