No airflow from center dash vents or floor, flap motor problem

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I am getting no air flow from the three center vents in the dash and none at the floor vents.
I took the car into Audi to see if it was possible to reset the flap motors via the computer to get them working again. They tried and didn't work. They said that one of the servo motors was bad...

I have searched everywhere and found some info, but not the right info.
This isn't the fresh air vent that has a tsb, it's a different vent flap altogether.

I have a Bentley manual coming but was hoping to fix it this week-end.

Does anyone have the layout of the vents or might know which one it might be?

Also, are they all accessed through the glove box? Audi quoted 4.5 hours to change out the bad motor.

depends on which motor. if blower motor they are taking you for a ride (without astroglide) all the way to the bank. If you have a bentley then you are already ahead of of the game, use your Spock logic to find out which servo/motor it is and R&R.

It's a pretty common problem. The b6'ers have a bunch of topics on it. Pull the glove box and replace the servos.

Well I pulled the glove box and found the offending servo. Pulled it out and opened it up and saw that the teeth jumped on the worm gear causing it to jamb.
I read several other threads on this forum where people tried to fix it and it only lasted a little while. So I found one local and picked it up.

It still isn't working. No matter what combination of buttons I push, I can't get it to work.
I'm wondering if it needs to be reset via VAG com.

I also have the airbag light lit on the dash since I unplugged the knee airbag when removing the glove box.

I need to get a VAG com to reset or take it to the dealer to have them reset everything. Any idea what that might cost?

And I was searching the site for info on purchasing the VAG com. Will any one work? Do I need a specific brand?

You need to scan via vagcom to determine the motor that has gone bad. Then, you can determine where it is, and replace it

I didn't know there was a 'fresh air' option; meaning scooping all the outside air in w/o using the fan when the car is rolling until you hit 'recirculate' to shut the vents. I bought my car new and the only way to get normal air is to turn the climate control on, that's the only option to get fresh air into the cabin. If I turn OFF the Fan, I suffocate. By the way, what bulletin is there for the fresh air fix?

Fresh air option? Sounds like a broken recirc vent if you ask me. When my recirc motor (V113) was broken, air entered the cabin with the climate control off. That is not by design. When I replaced the motor, the problem went away.

^^So it's normal for the cabin to stay 'shut' (like recirc.) unless one turns on the fan if fresh air is needed.

Correct. With all functions off, no air should enter cabin. My bet would be if you scanned AUTO HVAC using VAG COM you would get a fault from V113, if you are feeling air with functions off. This does not throw a CEL but is still a stored code for that module.

Okay, I'm bringing this thread back exactly after one year since the last post!
My problem: I just realized that no matter what I do, my floor vent isn't blowing. Engaging only the floor vents and shutting off the top and main dash still doesn't work -- air would only come out through the front dash vents. Also, my temperature seemed to fluctuate -- too hot at 75 but then started getting cooler shortly after even if I turn the damn thing up to 79-80F!!! What the F is going on here? It is fucking Winter and I need my climate control! I never find the hvac control to be working correctly shortly after I bought the car. What can be the problem? A reset? Need dealer to yank off and fuck up my dash (and replace blower motor) to make it work again?

Have you scanned auto HVAC for codes or performed output tests?

My heat stopped working last week and I ran vagcom and noticed the flappers were throwing codes. Took the glove box out and opened up the Flapper motors and reset the gears. You MUST clear codes and run Vagcom as the issue i was having was the flappers would reach limits and keep clicking. This is why people have air coming through when the system is off. You need to run vagcom as it will cycle the motor to learn what the maximum and minimum values are to open and close the flap, otherwise it wont work. All this takes under any hour to pull the glovebox and open up the motors if needed.

I don't have Vagcom. So you guys think all it needed is a reset to get this thing working again? I'm gonna bring it to the dealer after the holidays since I still have warranty left until the end of Jan 2016. Hopefully they can reset or replace something. The car needs a load of other work anyway, mainly under the hood. Man, this P.O.S. has A LOT of problems for such low miles (44,000). Other than that it drives nice.

Depends what stopped worked, If its the blower motor and its dead, you would need to swap it out, thats about an hour of labor. If the Flappers are stuck, you can try to open them up and reset the worm gears. the 4.5 hours quoted from the stealership is absurd.

Just an update on what's going on...so dealer fixed the problem regarding no air distributed when 'floor' is selected. When I choose lower floor, the center vents above the radio shuts, but the two corner vents on the farthest sides stays on at all time. Funny I don't remember them being like this.

Yes, been a while. Thought it wasn't a big deal. Just didn't have time to bring it in. I'm doing it now because I want to utilize my extended warranty before it expires in about 100 days.

...but still they couldn't fix it. Think I'll leave it alone since they didn't have any confidence in the fix, don't want them yanking off my dash creating new problems which is usually the case with these so-called techs.

I have almost the same problem. If not the same. I could hear the gears trying to work and now just stoped for "good"
Now just my window vent and center windshield works. Vag codes 01272 central flap v70. Googling ppl say to just clean would do it. I don't think will work with mine. My question is what part to purchase. Anyone have the part number?

More than likely your servo motor is bad, what specifically that is that you need I'm not sure but I would bet that's what needs replacing

I replaced the purple flap took 30 minutes only. It's easy! But now my a/c doesn't cold as before. Do i need to use a vagcom to reset or something? Or there are more to fix?

Did you disconnect the battery for the work? Try running around the block for a few minutes and see. It might just needed to re-learn itself.

Nice ya if you have vagcom you could try relearning it, under the channels I think you can make the flaps relearn their positions and that should help, besides that you may have a different issue in regards to the AC

I know mine isn't working right because my outdoor temp sensor is bad so it reads colder than it is so the car runs the heat when it shouldn't be lol

It's blowing better just got be on 68 F with outside at 88F. Normally keep on 72 would do the job. Or maybe I used all the Freon trying to keep the car cool when was broken. I Will run the vag and hope for the best
