    Hi Guys,

I've been a member for a few years now but haven't posted. I have a question regarding the power hatch. I have a 2017 SQ5, how can I tell if I have power trunk open/close and hands free release, you know kick to open the hatch up. My Audi info tells me i have the option and I go out and try to kick under the bumper to no hatch opening. I've read its a pain in the ass to do, but just want to know if I have the feature to begin with. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I think that was only an option in 2018 Q5/SQ5's and 2017 Q7's had it. If the sensor is there it is located to the right of the center of the bumper.

You may already know this, but the key has to be in the are (like in your pocket). Also swing your leg to get your foot underneath the rear valance near the center of the bumper. If you go too fast it wont work.

Nope, not an option on b8 q5s. It's available on the new generation q5s

    Yep. . .second gen. Q5 & Q7 has it.
It requires a kicking motion, not a sweep.

I wonder if there is any aftermarket sensor kit that could do the same thing for B8 Q5’s. Ought not be rocket science.

To talk with the key in your pocket might be tough.

I bet there's no aftermarket solution out there for this being that security and access via the keyfob is tightly controlled by Audi

I have something similar, but it's installed inside the hatch. Doug Robling used to make & sell them. It allows closing the hatch by the remote or driver's-door switch. It comes in pretty handy once in a while.

What I was thinking was a second switch wired in parallel with the switch in the existing location. It would change nothing in security system.

It ought to act, in effect, as if the existing switch were relocated to a place where it could be activated by touching with the tip of your shoe. Bear in mind that the existing switch will not operate if the key fob is not close to the car and will not activate if the car is in motion. Nor would the second switch as it is merely redundant to the first.. I don't see how wiring a separate switch in parallel would change the remainder of the circuit in any manner. What am I missing?

Your simplification sounds absolutely great. However, I'm sure there would have to be some sort of impedance matching involved so as not to piss off the CANbus.
