Are the camshaft Adjusters a must?
And if so, is the JHM kit the only other aftermarket option?

Can you use the original chains?

I'm looking to do only what is necessary and try to not get caught up and spend $5000 CAN.

No they are not a must. Mine at a hundred thousand head very minimal wear and I kept using them. The only real way to tell is to open them when you have the engine apart. They have a very simple function but when they do not function as they should, the engine will run horrible. The Jhm rebuild kit I believe is the only aftermarket option. One member had a shop just cut new holes in a different spot. No idea how that ended up working. The OEM adjusters are $600-$800 each depending on where you get thwm from. JHM's rebuild kit is $750

Yes you can reuse the chains

Has the use of the rs4 guide in the earlier b6 models been confirmed?
Europa parts advised me that me car has no rs4 guides available for my specific vin WAUPL68E14A037564
    He recommended part # 079109469ac.
Will this plastic guide break in a couple of years.
I would hate to pull the engine out again that soon.

I believe that the VIN split is for the cam chain tensioner guide... the upper and lower timing guides should work with the B6.

    [edit]removed previous links...[\edit]

I also have a pair of used mechanical adjustors out of my B7, they're in good shape I replaced them with JHM because I wanted to have all my parts ready to go before I yanked the engine out.

VIN below 200000 uses 079109469AC if they do not want to have the upgrade (some say the RS4 upgrade doesnt work) others say it does.)
Notice the oil nipple that goes into the block. this was states as not essential before since hole goes no where.

2000001 matches exactly to the stock 079109469AD
You can check for these parts too....

I would also recommend getting the JHM pintle caps for your injectors with new o-rings.. the OEM ones get brittle and you'll wind up breaking a couple of them.

They are a bit costly but if you're doing this extensive job it seems prudent to replace anything that is recommended by the service manual, IMHO. If you don't have any issues with cam solenoids there is really no reason to remove them at all, which means the 10x bolts wouldn't be needed either. In my case I am having the heads rebuilt at the same time so I'm pulling solenoids and cams.
I talked to JHM about this just the other day and they said roughly 1% of the time (1 of 100 jobs) they actually replace the diamond washers. I asked because I ordered the full kit from them, with the cam solenoid housings and did not receive the diamond washers. They said they don't include them because it's not necessary to replace them, even though the manual calls for it. Is this safe advice? I'm at the point of deciding whether or not to re-use or order new ones. I have 4 used diamond washers between my two sets...

Yea is a rarity. We have never seen an issue with them.
