Over my entire ownership of B5's (April 2012), I have been striving towards having a car with some actual torque.
...and that leads us to another 4.2 swap thread:
Destination Car:
In 2015 I picked up a Pearl White '98 Audi A4 2.8 QM with a seized engine for next to nothing, I immediately pulled the engine and brought it to the scrap yard, since then the car has sat, heartless

Pay attention to the tire tracks here to understand how I pulled the V6 out.

Donor car:
More recently, coolgraymemo informed me that his old 2000 A6 4.2 six speed with 150k miles was back on the market, and at a reasonable price ($1500).
I knew I had to pick this up as it had an 01e and a 4.2 which would effectively satisfy my driveline dreams for my daily A4 and this newly started project car.
Some pictures memo provided me with from when he owned the car.

and how it sits more recently:

Although I did get the pleasure of being the driver who rolled the engine over 150k:

There was a problem with the title of the car, and California not only would want $900 in back fees for the title but before they sent the title I would need to smog it in California.
Then I would need to pay the fee to transfer the title over to Nevada, get the car smogged in Nevada, and register it.
Not worth it. Not at all.
If you're curious, here's how I think the problem with the title arose:
coolgraymemo owned the car @127k and sold it to Person A.
Person A. parked the car where it wasn't supposed to be parked and it got towed.
Person A. never picked up the car from the tow yard (story behind this as well).
Plates were never taken off this car and accumulated fees.
Tow yard sold the car at auction to Person B.
Person B. paid off $200 of the $1100 in fees the car accumulated.
Person B. sold the car to Person C.
Person C. decided he didn't want to do anything with the car and listed it on craigslist, where coolgraymemo saw it again, informed me, and I purchased it.

(Don't ask).

My daily A4 has the 2.8 manual transmission from the above mentioned 1998 2.8 A4, so that will not be used in the project.
A local pick-n-pull had a URS4 and someone was kind enough to leave the transmission behind (01E 5 speed). I was able to pick this up for a mere $200.
To summarize so far, 4.2 V8 swap with an 01E 5-speed driveline.

6 Speed on the left, 5 Speed on the right, after pressure washing.
Being as how the destination car is a '98 2.8, this means that the throttle is drive by cable, which will need to be converted to drive by wire to be able to use the 4.2.
I have picked up an entire interior wiring harness from a 2001 A4 1.8TQT as this will hopefully have the correct provisions required to convert to drive by wire.
