I experienced this same behavior. Wouldn't rattle all the time. Occasionally I'd get rattle on cold as well as warm starts. The warm start rattle bothered me, so had the check valves replaced. It resolved the cold/warm rattling.

Yea all that stuff is brand new. This was completely random.

UPDATE: It's been 1k miles since my last oil change on this rebuilt engine. Burned ONLY about 1/8-1/4 a QT.

Has a total of about 2500 miles on it. Drove from Savannah to Charlotte to VA Beach to Richmond to DC the last 3 weeks

YAAAAY! Car arrived at port in Germany yesterday. So it'll be a couple weeks before it gets to me due to customs clearance.

1500 miles, only lost 1/4 or .25 of a quart! And I haven't been taking it easy either.

So 1qt every 6k miles. I'll take it!

Engine has roughly 3,000 miles total now.

To prevent start up rattle from damaging my chain guides I fitted an Accusump just behind the front bumper, it won't matter if the check valves stick from time to time.

I'm on the same boat, away with work until mid June so the supercharger kit that I've managed to get the hold of will have to wait until after that.
