2016 Tornado Grey A5 Sportback

Hey guys, haven't been on this forum for that long but have been learning a lot from you guys.

After waiting a few long months on order, I picked up my A5 recently and I couldn't be happier!

I've always wanted an A5 and contemplated waiting for the B9, but I'm really not feeling the front end so I decided against it. I'm sure I'll grow to like the B9 over time but I just wanted to enjoy having a B8.5 while I still could.

Anyway, here's the new baby...

Bilstein PSS10's have been ordered and should arrive in a couple of weeks. Spacers to follow and a few other things down the line.

Not sure how much of a 'build' thread this will be, but more of a place to track the progress on the 5 and keep everything in one place.

The sportback lines look great, I think it's helped by the sunroof being a normal size instead of the huge glass panel of the coupe that carves the roof in half.

Thanks James. I've never noticed the difference in the coupe sunroof but I can see how that would play on the lines.

Correct! I've lived here for many years now and I got used to having the steering wheel on the right and driving on the left side of the road, but the thing that I still find awkward is shifting gears with my left hand. Just not as natural for someone right-handed.

Thanks. I'll be running these wheels for a while and then sell them on eventually. I didn't think I would like them as much until I saw them in person.

I've lived here for many years now and I got used to having the steering wheel on the right and driving on the left side of the road, but the thing that I still find awkward is shifting gears with my left hand. Just not as natural for someone right-handed.

In my case, I found shifting gears from the 'wrong' side of the car very easy in my U.K. spec Coupe Quattro (see avaitar) ... in fact much easier than the current set-up's with their long throws between gears and clutches which I just couldn't deal with.

Good point about the long throws, I'll look into a short shifter in future which should make a big difference. Nice car btw!

Same here. Had to get one before the B9 got here. It's funny because I think the new A4 looks great, much better than the outgoing model, but I feel just the opposite with the A5.

I agree about the A4, they made some nice improvements. As for the A5, I thought I would enjoy this one for a few years and then see how I'm feeling about the B9... that way there are no regrets.

Coilovers and spacers installed... what a difference they make. Would like to go a little lower but will let them settle for a while and see how it looks.

I've always been partial to silver myself, but decided I could live with an A5 coupe in Tornado Grey Metallic (I just recently bought my 2015 A5 used, and color was only one consideration), since Tornado looks almost silver in sunlight as these two photos nicely illustrate. Tornado looks much more appealing to me than the darker Monsoon Grey Metallic (which is nice in its own right, but lacks any real hint of the silver that I find appealing...).

Funny you mention the color, as my previous car was a Monsoon Grey A4. I really liked the color but I found that it had a blueish/greenish hue to it that you could see under a certain light. Nothing wrong with that, it's just that I became more partial to TG as it leans more towards silver.

Both are beautiful colors imo, and they couldn't have cooler names either!

Been a while since I've updated this, although there have only been some subtle changes so far.

Removed side and rear badges, wrapped the grille and window trim in satin black and did a complete interior LED replacement from deAutoLED (big difference in the footwell lights):

V-FF 102's are on! Still need to add 5mm spacers and maybe adjust the height a little, but overall I love the look and concave is nuts.

Thank you guys! So thrilled with these wheels, they have changed the look so much.

Kinda want to wait for the spacers to go on first so will try and get more pics in the next couple of weeks.
