*Update* JHM B7 AVANT GOES 12.1 @ 114 ON STOCK MOTOR- Video Inside

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
As you all know back on 09-02-15 we set the record for FASTEST B7 A4 with a 12.5 @ 111MPH pass in my Blue 2006 Avant.
Video Here: JHM Record Setting B7-A4 2.0T Avant: JHM Big Turbo Kit 12.55 @ 111.12 mph

Unfortunately that car was totaled in January of this year. I decided I wanted to continue on with the B7 A4 Avant so bought a car and moved ALL of my performance parts over to the New 2007 Ibis White Avant: Thread here: I'm back with a New Avant - JHMWAGN v2.0.

As part of JHM's commitment to the B7 A4 Platform we decided to start really pushing the limits of the stock motor with our off-the-shelf JHM TD05H-R Stage 3 Big Turbo Kit but this time adding a race tune and fuel. Here are the results:

A month and a half later the car is running and driving fantastic. I recently changed out the plugs on the car and did a compression test and the car sat at 180psi on all cylinders. I have made dozens of 12 second passes on the car in the last few months in addition to these results.

These results make us (JHM) VERY excited about the future of this platform, we are almost into the 11's with a stock motor and our off-the-shelf turbo kit hardware!

What is the potential of this kit on a fully built longblock? Versus a K04, 3076, etc....

K04 would put out less power and a GT3076 would put out more (GTX3076 more still).

I already saw some used kit on sale, around 1500$ cad, but I have to add some goodies and tune. I'll need a 3000$ budget on the family dd car. which make no sense for the wife .

I have to take a decision, either to make the avant a ''summer'' car or leave it as a daily.

If its the daily I'll ''need'' a summer toy, and if it's a ''summer'' toy I'll ''need'' a nice daily.

Since my avant is pretty rare ( true sline, 6peeds, 2008, very well equipped, 95 000km) , I might keep it clean, in the garage and start playing with big mods....

Thanks guys! The kit is truly a dream to drive. There is more than enough power to have a good time and get into trouble. I couldn't be happier with the direction the platform is going and the results we have produced with my cars.

Hope all of you have a safe and sound Thanksgiving! Remember the JHM Big Turbo Kit is on its deepest discount yet. This will not last long!

Realistically that completely depends on what your goals are. As of right now, you could build a car capable of climbing to the top of Drag Times Thread List on your stock motor. We have proven this over and over again that these cars are not as anemic as people once thought them to be.

Hopefully soon! The track closed for the season on Wednesday nights so I need to find a Saturday to go. Maybe in January sometime me and a couple of the other JHM guys will head out there and take a few cars out to play.

Always a good time ripping through the California hills with your B8 S4! Side note: Ripping over California hills in a golf cart with you is equally as fun!

I honestly wouldn't know... I haven't put it on the Dyno. The K04R is a great kit for the driver that enjoys that super snappy small sized turbo with more guts up top than your standard K03/K04. The TD05H-R is on a completely different level though. As you can see from what we have been doing we are able to keep going faster and faster every chance we get. If we were to try to achieve the 12.1 times we have the TD05H-R, with the K04R we would be running that turbo far outside of its efficiency range.

Recently I have been asked by a few people how I launch the car at the track or just for launch tips in general. I just posted this in the Drag times Thread but I wanted to drop it in here so more people could read what steps I take in my own car.

There are a lot of different ways you can launch your car but the key to a good launch in a B7 A4 is not dropping the clutch, its feathering the clutch. How I prepare to leave the line is pretty simple and has worked great for me over the years of racing the car(s).

Working under the impression you have our JHM B7 A4 2.0T LWFW and Clutch Combo.

When I bring the car up to the line I am typically on and off the engagement of the clutch. Once the first set of staging lights turn on I press the clutch in just enough to release the clutch and I tap the brake to stop the car from rolling forward. Once the car is still, I will lightly engage the clutch enough to pull the car forward very slowly to trigger the second staging light. Once the second set of staging lights comes on I press the clutch in just enough to allow it to release and stop moving the car. Now the car is staged and you will be waiting for the tree to start lighting up.

I personally like to feather the clutch in. When the tree starts lighting up I will utilize the built in Launch Assist in the JHM B7 A4 2.0T Tuning. This is done by having the Traction Control OFF and having the throttle to the floor. I personally leave the line on the last yellow light. By the time the car gets moving the light is green and you have not jumped the gun and red lighted. (Red lighting at the track is technically only bad if you are bracket racing- It will not change your time from start to finish). When i start to let the clutch out your position on the pedal travel is KEY. You should have the pedal just shy of the engagement point so when you naturally start to move your foot your clutch is technically engaging and starting to move the car forward. The easy way to describe it is a controlled slip of the clutch allowing the car to catch up to the RPMs. Consistent release is a big part of a good launch. To fast and it bogs the car, to slow and you slip the clutch heating it up extremely fast potentially. There is a sweet spot to all of it, you just need to find the combination of seat position, pedal travel and calming your nerves about breaking things. Through all of the abuse I have put my car through, I have never broken a single thing.

It’s hard to explain but if you watch this video after reading this and watch the RPMs and the boost gauge you see when I’m on and off the throttle. Also fun side note, this is some of the footage we have that we haven't posted where it shows us taking the STOCK motor to RPM ranges people naturally would be concerned about taking them to.

So I don't own a 2.0 but I'm curious as to what made you feel safe taking a stock motor up to 7,700 rpms haha. Is valve float an issue? What about certain hardware like rod bolts getting sheared from being pulled back and forth so fast? I know some people mentioned the balancing shafts in the oil pump being a problem when revving high... It's crazy to see a 2.0 with double the power reach those rpms and put up those times. Very impressive, I'd love to rev my 3.2 like that.

Put the kit on at 107,XXX. Now have 124,000. Only real problems I have had are fueling issues due to tired fueling components i.e. Lpfp. I really like the kit, makes me wish I had a built engine cause I know the turbo has a lot more in it. I have added meth injection and that def helps making more power up top.

Because the OEM low pressure fuel pump can't keep up with the demand, overheats, and cuts.

Torqbyte makes a great meth controller that'll control an RS4/TTRS/aftermarket LPFP as well.

This. The RS4 lpfp controller isn't an option currently unless you can find a used one for sale. There is an order block on the part number and apparently there are none in Audi inventory. GAP told me I got the last one (I lied and gave them an RS4 VIN and told them my car was inoperable), which was sent from Germany. I guess they are having supplier issues. The Torquebyte PM3 is your best option right now (or the CM5 if you want the extra features).

Ideally you would upgrade the pump and controller at the same time to avoid issues.

Not sure what you guys are talking about, that 12.1 run was done on a OEM lpfp. I run a OEM lpfp as well, I just replaced it because it had over 100,000 miles on it when I put the kit on and JHM said it would be a good idea to get a new one after looking at my logs

So ideally you want an even stronger Fuel Pump one then just the upgraded internals? What options are out there for that. Won't that need a custom tune then?

I think we are talking about two different things here the hpfp is the one with upgraded internals, where as the lpfp is the one in the tank that doesn't require any upgrades

No problem really. When you buy the stage 3 kit JHM goes a step further than most by asking for logs to make sure everything looks peachy. After looking through the logs they said it would be in my best interest to get a new lpfp because it was on the weak side.

Klridler44 is right. We like to make sure that our customers cars are in proper working condition after they have installed the Big Turbo Kit. With the logs we request we can confirm that the installation was done correctly and the car is healthy. In his case we were able to see his LPFP was weak and not being able to keep up. That being said, he replaced it and sent us the new logs and was back on track!

I'm not sure if you are speaking about the LPFP in the tank but if you are you should take a look at this!

As you all probably already know our awesome cars have a touch of RS4 in them. The two cars share the same LPFP in the gas tank. About 2 years ago JHM went 10.7 @ 130mph with a full weight, street tire RS4. We have been running this fuel pump in many RS4's over the years.

I was in need of a new fuel pump for my car due to age so I decided to toss one of these in to see how the car would handle it. I have been running this pump for a little while now doing testing everyday. The results have been just as we expected, fantastic. The pump is a 340lph pump with a custom made laser cut bracket that allows you to use your factory basket with minor modifications. This pump is MUCH more durable than the factory pump and can handle race gas better than a factory pump. If anyone is interested in one of these pumps let us know and we can get you set up!

Now on to the good stuff! Pictures!

Nice. Now you should develop a plug and play controller solution.

Not a bad thought.... maybe I'll propose that to the R&D Team! I'm taking credit for the idea though 😁.
