For starters the EGT readings in VCDS are calculated values. The do not come from an actual temperature reading. I checked through my logs and found several 3rd gear pulls with a GIAC 1+ (big injector file) as well as several pulls with my current FT21L set up. They were pretty much the same for both set ups. Unfortunately I do not have any logs for a stock tune. Here's the range for the FT21L:

1720 rpm (525°c)→6500 rpm (875°c) This was recorded at WOT.

Which value is it that you logged (see parameters in original post)?

I was using the Motoza data logger so I really don't know what protocol Dave@Motoza uses. Possibly LAMBTS 2.120 (component protection)?

The variable is tabgbts_w for the modeled EGT (component protection). Hardware changes can change the validity of that model though.

I usually see values between 500*c and 900*c to answer your question. When my timing was too retarded and boost too high on my MK4 I was seeing almost 1100*c at redline in the summer. Stock manifolds/turbo hotsides won't withstand that for long IMHO just based on the properties of cast iron...

I'll dig through my log file archives when I get back home. No guarantees I have anything though. I can't even remember to back when I ran a stock map on my VW or Audi. Its been a while to say the least

tabgm_w, but it's only accurate on a stock engine

I guess Bische is right about the variable. I always log tabgbts because it relates to BTS fueling activation (and I care more about pre turbo EGTs than post turbo EGTs). I'm going to log both and see what the difference is, if any. No scratch that, I'm going to get off my ass and install a thermocouple instead. Screw this modeled crap.

And I spent a while digging through my logs. No stock logs sorry. Guess I never saw the point in taking any.

yeah, the model Bosch wrote likely works fine for the intended purpose (the instructions require the OEM (Audi, VW) to enter EMPIRICAL data points to adjust the model properly for the respective engine and setup). But it is way off once modifications are done. Old tale: When hitting the thresholds on modified setup running water/meth, Daz refused to follow my logic ('not real') and did not budge (adjusting the threshold) until I purchased an EGT probe and logger, drilled and tapped and showed him the hard data (model was consistent 200 degrees off).

Now seeing 1050 on stock engine, tune, exhaust. Me thinking: clogged cat.

It only takes a real measured EGT to recalibrate the model for a different setup, and have it spot on modeled. Though one or more key maps are limited to an 8bit load axis(been awhile since I did a EGT model recalibration) that has to be hacked in order to calibrate above 191% load.

I did it on Hansi's car

Bosch instructs the OEM (Audi et al) to take 4 (not one) measurements (at 4 locations); possibly for the various output locations the algorithm spits out.
May one measurement if you only want to software to calculate one of the temps correctly.

Yup, and if you follow said algorithm you'll find that 3/4 is measured by the ECU at all times, the 4th is real EGT

I would'nt reply to the thread if I did'nt know what I'm talking about lol

Removed; Upon inspection I don't trust my logs to be accurate as per factory tune.
