B7 ESC Short Shifter vs JHM

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!

Why did they release this so late for the B7 platform ? Is it better than the tried and true design of JHM. Seems like a 30 page install vs few videos. I never got the SS and now that the B7 is 10 years old, there are more choices. Can't find ECS reviews at all. Help me choose.

There was a thread in the RS4 section where a member installed this. Claimed it was better than the JHM version, but he's known to be anti-JHM, so take it for what it's worth. Also mentioned install was much easier since JHM's can be a bit finicky.

Interested in hearing reviews as well, it's on my radar.

I have an aftermarket shifter but I'm not sure which one. The previous owner installed it and I bought it from a dealership, so I have no way of contacting that person. Is there any way to tell which shifter I have just by looking at it after removing the molding? I have to adjust my linkage anyway. Whatever I have is definitely way better than stock, that's for sure.

Should be able to tell from the design itself - take a pic when you do...

I've had a couple customers use them with nothing but happy things to say. The different levels of adjustment is a definite plus.

Black Friday is coming up. Friken go for it!

I have the ECS short shifter in my B7 and love it! I have it at the shortest setting and it's buttery smooth and just a flick of the wrist per gear.

just trying to understand the difference. Did you switch to ecs short shifter from stock shifter? was the stock not switching gears with just a flick? I have had previous cars where I was able to flip with soft throws and do miss. Hence the question...

I'd also be highly interested in seeing reviews I've been debating installing a short shifter but being a relatively new Audi owner I've had no idea where to start.

If you have an older JHM short shifter, there's a complimentary exchange program for the newer revision. See their JHM short shifter product page for details.

Just installed the ECS short shifter. I've never owned the JHM, but yikes, this thing was tough to calibrate correctly. I spent a good 2 hours messing with the positioning to even allow me to engage reverse. Once I could finally get into all gears and reverse, it's a bit choppy. I'll have to tweak it some more, but worried I won't be able to get it back

Also, i'm sort of shifting at an angle, it's not quite up and down like stock. Is this normal?

On the plus side, the shifting feels pretty good so far, with a nice 'click' with each shift.

Haha - sounds exactly like the JHM.

I was told mine was a newer version. Purchased in 2010.
