    S4 needs more power!!!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So I bought an 07 S4. It moves and goes but I'm just not really amazed by the power. Any way to get a little bit more juice out of it? Nothing crazy because I just bought it for the wife to drive around this winter but would like to get some more power. Also in the middle of a big turbo A4 build so I don't want to get into it to deeply.

Thought about intake and exhaust maybe!? Does it worth it?

Wait, what? Did you mean to post on the B8 S4 board? A 100hp tune for the B6/B7 S4/RS4? You'll be lucky to see even 10whp.

Doubtful my friend. I've done this tune myself and I've gotten a significant difference.

By popular response, apparently I've been misinformed about gains. Regardless I've had significant boost in power since going jhm. Night and day from stock

A 100hp gain on a naturally aspirated motor? Not without spraying gas, or boost.

Even if you pulled both heads, opened up the ports, installed bigger valves and polished the ports in addition to a JHM tune, you might just end up with 15-23hp.

Piggies aftermarket cutback and a tune steps you up 20 to 30 horse. The b7 s4 is heavy so dropping weight can be effective as well, starting with the full size spare.

Wait what? 100 hp with a simple ecu download on a naturally aspirated engine.
More like an ECU flash does close to absolutely nothing on a stock s4 b6 unless you replace the full exhaust system (like JHM themselves say if i;m not mistaken)

Edit: never mind , didnt read rest of the thread and the part that you were misinformed

So I started thinking about this 100hp gain also... I guess it'll be more responsive to throttle. I don't think I can get more power out of it. Probably I just post it up for sale. Someone will buy it pretty nice, and dealer serviced.

The most dangerous phrase in your vocabulary is "good enough".

Yep.... piggies are free... get a 2.5" car back exhaust with an X-pipe then get your JHM 93 tune. You will immediately be satisfied.

Lol, go dyno your car. You maybe gained 10hp... The JHM tune modifies the throttle response which makes it feel faster.

OP to answer your question.. Gut your pre-cats (this is free) and get the JHM tune and be done. Without adding a supercharger I wouldn't recommend spending all the money to add bolt ons.

*The weight of these cars is what kills performance, which (as an example) is why all us Porsche owners do weight reduction instead of dropping tons of money into bolt ons for an N/A car. Exhaust/suspension and weight reduction is about the best you can do.

    My 2 cents:
    - This car is slightly deceptive due to the motor's smooth torque curve, so of course the low-end torque of a turbo is neck snapping by comparison.
    - The ECU is annoying like most: you have to flog it a few times to redline at WOT to get some adaptation action in order to access the top-end power from my experience.
    - Of easily obtained weekend bolt-ons, a tune is 50% of it, piggies and exhaust are the other 50%, (always depends on conditions, though).
    - Off the line, you're just going to have to launch it if you want to get up and go. Better get a good clutch setup to go along with this. JHM tune's launch control is handy.
    - Get a B8 S4 instead...

Yeah probably that's what I'm gonna do. Or buy an A7 again. We loved that car! We'll see. It'll depend what I can find a good deal on!
