I think you should have been more specific in your question. many guys who are tuned are going to be running a different plug.

if you are running a total stock set up you may want to ask those only with stock setup to respond or it will get very confusing very quickly. Also if you are running a tune post what tune so the information will be relevant.

    cheers.

    from my past searches :

    - stock 2.0t : BKR6EIX
    - smooth tunes : BKR7EIX
    - heavy tunes : BKR8EIX

I personally use BKR7EIX, no issue. stage 2, even under very cold weather -30°C. And they were properly gaped when I bought them.

Why don't you try asking your local auto parts store..? Surely you can do some of this research/legwork yourself.

And then when they tell you they don't have them, order online.

they are pretty common. I found them at a local store.
On the forum I heard that they can have 2 gap spec, but luckily I got the good one @0.028 iirc.

actually, there was a thread on this, and it was a well known shop who miss lead people.

i'll try to find the thread, but pretty sure 6 was stock. I wont argue on that one because it was more than 1 year, but I do remember that there were a big argue on the 6/7

edit 1 : not that thread, but it call for 6 . see post #13

Stock heat range would be NGK 7 or Bosch 6

If you want a step colder it would be NGK 8 or Bosch 5 (their heat ranges are numbered in different directions)

Maybe Jake will chime in as I know he's discussed this many times

Personally I prefer to go to the source when researching this stuff, meaning the bentley manual, Audi's manual, or the spark plug manufacturer themselves. NGK's website part finder specifies PFR7S8EG. Yes its a Platinum (its an OEM replacement, not a performance part) but thats (obviously) heat range 7. The actual OEM plug is the Bosch FR6KPP332S (Which I'm currently running, 100% stock). Which doesn't translate directly to NGK numbers and is sort of in between 6 and 7 NGK. Given even a mild tune calls for more from the engine, and we as enthusiasts generally call for more from our engines I would round up to an NGK 7, especially since thats what NGK themselves specify in their part finder.

Wasn't trying to be rude and call you out, just wanted to get the right info out there, albeit in a sort of blunt manner, haha.

    Indeed i have, haha.

The majority of the confusion stems from legacy 1.8t knowledge. Those engines used a NGK6 plug so when places just copy paste information or make assumptions about the engines, you get this sort of confusion. Didn't help that the spark plug guide on here had the old information for a really long time and was only updated in the past few years. Its totally understandable for the mixup but I just try to call out people when they're in error in hopes of propagating the correct information.

A while after that post I found out the error of my ways but rather than buying new NGK BKR7EIX-11 plugs I just went with stock Bosch plugs since my car is stock, and different plug would make zero difference. FWIW I did run that larger .044"/1.1mm gap for a few years without any issues, but again, on a stock car its not going to make much difference and my car is in a holding pattern while I find the time to sort out some of the niggling engine issues (aka bottom end rebuild + piston rings)...

this info need to be cleared. Because I saw many contradiction over audizine. even on ECS.

So far, I got one link stating 7eix are OEM, and 2-3 stating 7eix is 1 step colder...

I just shoot this, but is it possible that NGK platinum or copper are not exactly working in the same heat range as Iridium (EIX) ?

I don't know about you but the information seems pretty clear. From NGK's Website:

I obviously don't have the bentley with me at work but I'm fairly certain it has a spark plug section with the equivalent NGK plug to the OEM Bosch one and it has that same NGK platinum in the picture above.

And Heat ranges are standardized across plug ranges by NGK. The range number would be meaningless otherwise. An NGK 6 is an NGK 6 regardless of the plug makeup, whether its copper, iridium, lazer platinum, whatever, if its a 6 heat range plug its the same as any other 6 heat range plug. This is why I go to manufactiurer's websites to find info like this, rather than rely on resellers (ECS) or even tuners (though JHM seems to get this stuff right, consistently so to JHM). Nor do I put a ton of stock on searches on Audizine. As you saw there's plenty of discussion and wrong info out there. Hell, I even used to know the wrong info and would post up stuf like I knew what I was talking about. In hindsight I was pretty wrong.

I don't have a lab to test it sorry. All I can rely is forums and part shop. See my links. All of those are wrong? Don't get me wrong, but I don't know the deep spec on sparkplug, as the other I did reading and I show here what I found.
I can send a mail to NGK, because platinum is not iridium. Should be the same anyway...

At the end. I had hesitations on OEM vw NGK. And I did not notice any trouble with 7iex. (Might be normal maintenance tho)
That is the only information that I can report. Based on observation and reading.

Some report no issue on stock tune with 6iex.

Leave the number part aside, if we speak only on thecnical point of view (detonation and/or missfire) , we can conclude something reliable with a benchmark, with temps sensors and pressure sensors. But for now , the best scientifical comment I can give, is my observation on the stage 2 FSI that I own.

Precisely why I said "And when they tell you they don't have them (referring to the plugs we've talked about here already) order online"

This. I've gotten some really dodgy info asking parts shops for help. The only place that steered my right was a smaller shop that I went to solely because a guy who worked there had a modified GTI parked out front so I figured the guy would at least be knowledgeable about VAG cars. Which was the case.

^^ Those are weird plugs. Don't the non-resistored part fuck with the ignition systems?

Kristokes actually updated the post in your first link (last edited in 2014): http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...ent-Guide-v2-0

Here he states the NGK7 is OEM, so I'm thinking your links are not the latest information.

Not that I've noticed, but they do apparently mess with the radio signal and I have not noticed any interference.

Oh weird, OEM's are NGK not Bosch? I didn't know that!

In any event those are the same NGK Platinums in my screengrab above from the NGK website. So yea.

B7 should have came with both NGK or Bosch i forget when it was switched. Either way, buying OEM seems almost pointless when you can buy the same NGK plug for less.
