Another chapter!

Unfortunately, my beloved S4 was taken from me at the end of July - got rear ended at about 40mph sitting in traffic. $37,000 in damage to the S4, total loss. Of course insurance wouldn't cover any modifications and I was 3 weeks out of my full-replacement value clause so it was a pretty bad situation. Some photos for those of you who haven't seen my thread for that.

A few arguments with insurance and about 6 weeks of physical therapy later, got myself an S3!

One word - WOW. I can't believe I didn't grab one of these sooner. Not only is it almost half of what I was paying for my S4, just as fast, all of the tech, but the mods are half the price too! Definitely a great move for me as my priorities have shifted financially but I'm not sure I'm ready to give up the sports car. Looked at used Porsches, a new Challenger SRT8, another S4, maybe an S5, a Camaro 2SS or a Vette. Most of those were a bit out of the money with the whole insurance leaving me looking laterally or for a downgrade.

Anyway to the details...

Picked up a 2016 Glacier White on Black Audi S3 Technik, Handling Package, LED Lighting Package, Black Optics with Red Calipers. First things first, put the 35% tints on, really pops on the white. In the past couple weeks, I've added full front end PPF, 12mm spacers in the front and 17.5mm in the rear, and a full ceramic pro treatment making the car basically invincible.

Sold off most of the parts I could salvage from the S4, lots of parts ordered and should be put on the car before the end of the season. Until then - enjoy some photos!

Fantastic photos! I have a 2017 version of your car on order. (actually mine is Ibis White). I plan to go 20% tint on mine which I have on my current car.

Mine will have Ontario plates too. 8^)

Appreciate it. I was amazed at how banged up I was because of a simple rear ender. I've been in tons of skiing falls at high speeds, hard bails when wake boarding, but none of that amounted to the weird tweak I got in my back when it happened plus the concussion. I'm 25 and in pretty good shape too.

Thanks, and I appreciate it! Spent a lot of time, money, and effort on my car. Spent an awesome 3 years with it, but it was definitely time for a change. I had hoped to go P-car or TTS but the dollars on the S3 were way too attractive considering my current endeavours financially.

Big update. Got the exhaust put on, spacers in the rear, car has really come together. Going to get some parts together over the winter, but I think I'm going to ease up a bit and focus on taking some photos - definitely hit that subscribe button.

I picked up an iPhone 7 Plus and have been experimenting in Lightroom - DISCLAIMER I am by no means a professional photographer nor pretend to be. If you've got any tips, please let me know :)

After all of this time, I only just now connected the AZ name to IG name. Pics look good! I've been using Lr for 3-4 years. And I run cell pics through often. I'd love to see more pics of the 90mm tips. I feel like 90mm quads have to be large enough for these little guys....

Did the 16' black optics package come with the five star 19"s? I'm looking at the 17' S3 but the BO package comes with those hideous flower looking wheels. Which I could get the BO with the five stars wheels -_-

I would really like to hear about your experience so far with the track exhaust. i to came from an S4 with track exhaust on it and i SO miss it ( the exhaust note )
Ive had a 4 pot before with an AWE on it, but a 4 banger is a 4 banger and the range wasnt there and the depth was only up top and it droned like crazy down low.
did the exhaust note really liven up the car for you acoustically ? in better words, does it put a smile on your face like it does with the track on the S4 ?

and sweet pickup, love glacier white and i was in a pickle too deciding from glacier or Sepang, cant go wrong !

the flower-power wheels are also 7 lbs heavier per wheel and are non-forged when compared to the 5 double spoke star ones (~21 vs ~28 lbs).

True but from a cost efficiency perspective it's much simpler to switch out wheels, than changing out every piece of the BO package

Yep, those wheels came with the car. I was worried as well, I think some S3's come with the black optics flowers but I'm not sure how they make the decision. Pretty sure all the 17s will come with them.

Either way, there seems to be a market for them and they tend to go for more than the split 5's, I wouldn't pass on the car over the wheels. Run them as winters and get yourself a summer setup, worst case.

Thanks! Loving the glacier, but because of SilveR316's S6 (pictured) I really wish I had a Sepang. That said, I was sick of the maintenance on the Estoril Blue so this is probably a great route, plus I got a stupid deal on this one.

For the exhaust, I was hesitant as well. To be fair, there is something truly special about the touring sound that comes from that V6 in the S4, however I think the track on the S3 will impress you like it did me. Doesn't sound like a crappy 4 banger, it sounds like a smaller V6 if anything, however you MUST turn off the soundaktor - I cannot stress this enough. It's a little bit droney, if you had a stock downpipes exhaust on a DSG S4 you'll know the feeling, albeit not as bad but the soundaktor does not react well with this exhaust, it's like getting an MRI.

Audi is making us choose some odd tradeoffs. My perfect starter kit would be: the forged 5 double spoke star wheels, BO, Super Sports seats that are powered, and without Mag Ride.

Any written info on the forged dual 5's? This is news to me. I know the RS5 19's were forged, but had no idea there was another forged Audi wheel.

the mag ride wheels without tires weigh 9.7kg or 21.3848lbs

Those are for s3's with mag ride but not the Black optics package. The black optics 19's weigh around 27lbs

I actually weighed mine out of curiosity when I did my spacers.

The OEM dual 5s are 42.5lbs with stock continentals, while my rotor replicas with Dunlop winter tires are 51lbs. Same wheel and tire sizes, big difference in weight.

Joel! Long time no speak. I remember when we were modding our Q's about the same time. Sorry to hear yours was taken as well, you put a ton of effort into it! Definitely gotta check out that Sepang.

I'm with you on all that, but I love my mag ride. Missed it on the S4, that thing rode like a skateboard.

I actually weighed mine out of curiosity when I did my spacers. The OEM dual 5s are 42.5lbs with stock continentals...

Those tires are ~21lbs, so that is consistent with ~21lbs for the wheels. I was under the impression Fuchsfelge was the manufacture of these wheels for Audi, but I haven't seen all the details.

Very cool regarding the wheels! Even though I'll rarely be on the stocks, I'd like to swap for the forged ones at some point.

The aftermarkets I'm eyeing are 19x8 et39 and weigh right at 20 pounds.

Sorry to hear your S4 is toast too! S3 was a pretty logical move to stay in the Audi family, much much cheaper lease rate too since the 17's were on their way. This will tide me over nicely, dreaming about a new RS5 Cab or 911 next if life works out haha.
