    Bad Replacement PCV Valve?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Engine sucks air when I remove the oil filler cap so bad PCV valve (no error codes). Got the part online, installed it this morning.

Start car, runs and idles fine, double check all fitting are OK and no more sucking at oil filler cap...yup..everything good. Get back in car to turn it off and suddenly it starts to surge and run rough. Turn it off, check everything again, everything it connected and tight. Start again and drive around block, still rough idle (but seems to accelerate OK and drive fine when not at idle).

Take off new PCV valve, put old one back on, car now runs and idles just fine, except the oil filler is sucking air again.

Did I get a bad part?

(NOTE: On the new valve the circular hole on the right is open. On the old valve, there is a "disk" that rides on a shaft in that circular hole).

What year? There are two types of pcv valve and breather tube. Do not mix and match.
One has a valve on pcv, one has valve on breather tube.
Early b7s came with valve on pvc and later ones came with valve on breather tube.

You must use the full set. Either valve on pcv and no valve on breather tube, or valve on breather tube and no valve on pcv.

I went through 2 pcvs in a week and determined my turbo was bad. So it may be other things causing your car to go crazy. Oh valve cover also is the oil route and not uncommon for it to go bad and cause all kinds of issues.

The car is supposed to suck air when you take the oil cap off. If it's sucking too much air to the point where it seems like the car is going to die when you take the oil cap off that's not good. I got a PCV valve once that wasn't genuine Audi and my car burned more oil. When I would take the oil cap off there was no air being sucked. That wasn't right so I put my original PCV back on... Now a little bit but not too much air is sucked when I take off the oil cap and all is good.

I checked the build date and mine is the early car (2005.5 2.0T, May 2005 build) and I ordered the PCV for the early car.

The PCV that I took off has the valve on the PCV (what I mistakenly called the "disk" above).

    This is the one I purchased;

DAMNIT, I just realized I bought the wrong one! That is the later engine and mine is the earlier one...CRAP! Can't believe I did that. Went out to the car and made sure I had the correct production date so I would get the correct valve!!!

All you need to do is get the matching later model breather hose with the valve and you will be fine with the PCV you have.

Lol. Just buy the correct breather hose. You should be good. But be warned, changing pcv is easier than changing that hose.

Looking online, there does not seem to be a distinction between breather hoses (at leastat ECS Tuning). I assume the PN are different and I can find the Pn on audiparts.com.

ECS does have two versions of breather hoses with split year listed. For the PCV you got 06F129101P, you definitely need a new version of breather hose PN 06D103215A. Also be warned, some people here say Vaico PCV is not that good, even though I personally have not used it and cannot say one way or the other.

If you have the later model PCV on and older model car, you can still used it provided you put the newer breather hose on.

i would not reconfigure to the later style. only because it will screw up the next guy or your mechanic if you ever take it in for anything. just put the correct pcv on

You cannot mix and match the new style pcv and old style breather hose! then there is no valve! It has to be either new style pcv AND hose or old style and old style hose

I disagree, that pcv took twice as long as the breather did, all I was worried about was snapping the torx on the breather hose, but the one I did wasn't original as someone had changed to the newer style of both so maybe thats why it was easier
