Well they have benefits but some people don't like the "chatter" you sometimes experience at low rpm. Jhm claims some of their customers do not notice the chatter at all. I've been in B5 S4's and the chatter is pretty noticeable at low rpm in 1 and 2 gear. i went with the dual mass myself and a jhm stage 3 clutch and RS4 PP

I bought a 23lb single mass flywheel, which is roughly the same weight as the double-mass OEM unit. I didn't want the dual mass reliability risk but I also didn't want a lightweight flywheel. It's a Southbend

I went with south bend stage 4 extreme clutch kit, single mass. I love it , very positive feeling when going through gears. But yeah smooth stop and go driving is not the best. It depends on what you want to do with the car. I'm into drag racing and lapping so that's the reason for the single mass and radical clutch.

Thanks guys. I'll be using an oe spec RS4 clutch kit. I'm not racing the car so it should be more than good enough with stock feel.
I was considering a TTV lightweight cnc'd flywheel (6.8kg/15lb) as its cheaper than buying a dual mass. But if the negatives outweigh the benefits then I may as well stick with the dual mass.
I hear a lot of b5 owners comment on the chatter but I have no idea what they're like on a b6/b7.
    Thoughts?

Right - same as my (old) B6 OEM I guess - 23# Southbend was the only one I could find in single mass format that wasn't half the weight of OEM. Not sure if there aren't others out there

Yea my single mass is hard to notice unless I get out of the car and stand close.

So I'm pretty sure I'm going for a single mass now, just need to choose a suitable clutch!

Firstly, I hear the rs4 clutch kit works with the b7 flywheel but not the b6. Why is this?

Secondly, do I go for a oe LUK/Sachs clutch or something aftermarket? I don't want a JHM clutch kit or anything that involves me importing from the US, I need something that's available easily that won't sting me with import tax.

I've seen a Sachs performance clutch kit and an ACT clutch kit. Are these any good? Bare in mind I'm not racing the car or anything. I want to retain a light pedal but with a bit more feel.

There's also the option of going with a custom clutch kit from CG Motorsport, Helix etc. or something off the shelf such as black diamond, Sachs performance, ACT or spec.

Then finally I need to make the decision of what material to go with... organic, kevlar, or ceramic. Or even a dual friction disc.

    Help!

That also requires importing so it's a no go.

I think another RS4 owner recently got the TTV flywheel. And supposedly ACT makes the JHM R series PP, however that will hive you a good bit stiffer pedal which you said you didn't want.

Honestly a LW flywheel will give you the benefit of quicker rev's and the LUK clutch should do just fine if you don't dump the clutch all the time. Usually you can buy the stock LUK clutch WAY cheaper which is the exact same as OEM but comes without the audi stamp on it

You get what you pay for. Want the best? Then you gotta pay to play. I've had countless supermoto parts shipped from Europe because they weren't available in the states.

Thanks bcsniper. Reckon there's much difference between LUK and Sachs? Will I still be able to use the JHM launch control on occasions without worrying about frying the clutch?

Btw I don't need the best, just something adequate. It is after all a daily. If the oe rs4 clutch can cope with the odd track day then that's good enough.
