    No more E85 for Arizona

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Not sure if this is just a Facebook hoax, but all the local car pages are blowing up Arizona is changing 'E85' to 'Flex Fuel' which is actually a E54 blend..

People on FB have been testing the gas stations and they have already dropped to 65-68% ethanol content

Anyone else states doing this or anyone heard of this?

I guess they're doing it because it wouldn't require them to change the blend during colder months and then again once it warms up.

Sucks to live in Arizona I guess lol

E85 is getting harder and harder to find all over the place. I have to drive 3+ hours to locate some where I am.

    I would gladly take E54 over E10

In Hungary they will stop selling completely starting on the 1st of Oct. Reason? 95 RON price == E85 price here, people are not buying it and
satisfying 0.1% of the population is not a good business model. WMI time my friends. At least that way you can get your gas mileage back
and produce the same power if properly tuned.

E85 will make MUCH more power than pump + WMI, unless you are spraying ungodly amounts of the Methanol.

WMI is really just a patch... E85 is basically poor mans race fuel

Yeah you have to be really on the edge with WMI, and really careful, but it can do it. However when E85 is 1.10 EUR and 95 RON is 1.08 EUR you start
to think what to do. As you really only need E85 when you actually beat on the car and with WMI you can achieve that. Race fuel is available here from
the pump by the way (not many places though) 2.8 EUR / liters. The Hungarian oil company (MOL) bought all the gas stations that were selling E85
and as a fun response they started to sell race fuel from the pump because they know that E85 is only used by ricers. The most funny thing was the 2nd
place they offered race gas from the pump was the place where all the illegal street racing happens during the nights.

Would fuel even as low as E54 still be better than pump 91 or 93?

Better at power production? Yes, but you'll still need to feed the engine more of it. Expect mpgs to fall somewhere between pump and e85.

It would still DEFINITELY be better then pump gas, although, e85 would be even better in terms of power potential. E100 would be even better still lol

So you guys are kinda getting screwed but its still better then no ethanol. My biggest concern would be the quality control station to station since they don't call it e85 or e70 or e60, etc anymore and refer to all of it as "flexfuel". Sure they say "it will all be exactly 54% ethanol now" but as you said people are testing local stations and finding the actual content to be in mid 60 range. So maybe it's a transition period they're going through to eventually get down to the advertised 54% or something. Untill you get a feel for the local stations throughout the season change I'd be testing the content at every fill up

Have you picked up a cheap ethanol tester to see the percentage? On one of my alt fuel apps I use to look for stations, it still shows plenty of e85 stations in Az. I'd be curious what percentage you are actually receiving.

they're still "flex fuel" stations but they are definitely e54. I'm apart of several car club/facebook pages out here and the guys that have ethanol testers report the content at different gas stations and its all e54. Last I checked, some stations still had it marked as e85 but tested as e54.

Corradovolksb is tuned on it, maybe he'll chime in. But from what I've heard, its like having the knock control of e85 and mileage of 91, so its kinda the best of both worlds.

my town dropped the only pump we had. you can get it if you dont mind buying by the barrel and storing fuel 200l at a time in your garage.

I have not tested it personally but I have talked to people that have and like Cj said it between E50-E60. The knock resistance is very close to E85 and my mpgs went from 17 on E85 to 22 on E54. I ran a 3.1fats on it recently so it still performs close to E85. Its going up in price tho it was $1.85 last week and I filled up yesterday for $1.99.

i had some issues with my car and i stopped putting the flexfuel for a while. It is not the same. yes i did have it tested and it was exactly E54.
well performance wise i am not feeling the same power as the E85. the torque was intoxicating on E85 and i dont feel the same. even my 13 year old can notice the difference.
