Things to grab from a 2006 (B7) at the U-Pull-It Junkyard

For the first time ever, I stumbled across a B7 at the junkyard the other day. The engine and front hub assemblies are gone, but I'm wondering what other stuff I might want to grab from it as an upgrade to a B6. It's an automatic, so no 6-speed gearbox to grab. The rear calipers are already on my list. What else should I consider?

FYI, the six speed you should consider grabbing is the one from a 2004 -05 B6 1.8T. IMHO, better ratios the the B7 unit.

If you take the steering wheel / air bag you're going to have to also take the clock spring and rewire the airbag connector. B7's use dual stage airbags.
Also, you don't want a B7 02X 6speed, I would look for a 1.8t 02X, the gears are a lot shorter. You'll notice a fairy large acceleration drop by using the 2.0t trans. Also rear end is a 3.89 for the B7 and 4.11 for the B6 1.8t.

Thanks for the input. Sorry for any confusion on the model year - it must be an early B7 built in late 2005, making it an early 2006 model year car. Onto follow-up questions/comments...

    - The B7 center console/e-brake swap would just be a cosmetic upgrade, yes? So it's really just the e-brake lever/handle we're talking about with nothing further downstream needed?

    - What's the story with the rear deck hinges/struts? Plug-n-play swap?

    - Is the Symphony 2+ radio a plug-n-play swap or is there some sort of re-coding/wiring required?

    - I'm happy enough with my B5 2.8 gearing 5-speed swap, so I'd have only grabbed the 6-speed stuff if it was flip-able for a decent enough dollar. Alas, it's NOT a 6-speed in this car, AND, from what you guys are suggesting, it sounds like the 2004/5 1.8T 6-speed stuff is the more desirable.

Here's a DIY thread on the center console swap. You want the console and the e-brake. You can use the B6 e-brake but the B7 fits better.

You can also use 2005 through 2010 Jetta hinges if you re-drill one mounting hole in the hinge.

Thanks for that data-point. I've already seen lots of 2005+ Jettas in the junkyard, so that should be much easier pickings. Yesterday I made it back to the 2006 A4 in question here, and it had the older style (no spring) hinges so I left them.

2006 B7's also still had the older Symphony radio (exact same unit as in my B6), so I left that behind as well. Good thing, as I don't have the keys to remove it. For future purposes, do the Symphony and Symphony II+ use the same keys? And how much of a challenge am I going to have getting the security code on a junkyard-pulled Symphony II+?

The interior of this car was rather roached out - beige center console looked like hell, so I left it behind.

I grabbed the rear calipers (only), but I didn't have the 21mm (?) socket to remove the shock to get access to the 8mm Allen heads, so the caliper brackets remained behind. Maybe another day. FWIW, I think these calipers may be the same ones used on the 2005+ Jetta.

you cannot use the B7 airbag on a B6... no matter what you do, a dual stage setup will not work on a single stage one...

The keys are the same. I ordered a symphony 2+ from eBay with no code. As long as you have the vin number of the car and the serial number on the radio you can go on audi of America and get the code for free.
