    Erratic wiper shut off

The front wipers on my C5 S6 don't always shut off.
Sometimes, they simply keep going after moving the switch to the off position.

    Observed behaviors:
    • Wipers ON, move switch to OFF > keep sweeping
    • Wipers INT & moving, move switch to OFF > keep sweeping
    • Wipers INT & between sweeps, move switch to OFF > start sweeping

This does not consistently happen--the wipers will usually stay OFF when switched off. When it does happen, if I shut off the ignition (i.e. just parked) then turn it back on, the wipers stay off.

Anyone know if this is a switch (stalk) or relay issue?

Happened to me.My problem was windshield cowl and water intrusion.Made a contact/short somewhere,I never found out where exactly. After I seated cowl correctly and let everything dry out good my problem disappeared.
It's sucha annoying thing, was driving me nuts for few days.
Hope you resolve it easy as I did.
    Good luck.

I've had this happen on a couple cars. Almost surely it's inside the wiper motor. The carbon contacts inside the motor wear and leave residue that creates a short between the part of the circuit that is normally 'open' when you turn the wipers off.
Try turning the key OFF quickly right when the wipers get to the normal park position, then turn key back on and see if they've stopped. IF so it's probably inside the motor.
The fix is to remove the wiper motor, take it apart and clean the circuit inside. There's nothing technical about it, just have a clean workbench and keep the parts organized and ytou can't screw it up.

Exact same thing happened on my allroad. The wiper was barely hitting the cowling on the pass. side and causing it to be erratic and wouldnt turn off, etc. Same symptoms as you. I re adjusted the wiper and the problem went away.
