    Podi gauge installation problem

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
i just installed my podi gauge and when i go test the gauge after putting in the wires the gauge will sweep from +30 to -30 and head back up to -5psi but the car is on but not the engine. So when i start then engine the need sweeps down to -20psi as it should.

So did i get the wires wrong? The blue wire is connected to a red wire with black strip. The yellow wire connected to a red wire with white strip. Black wire is to the ground nut.

Did you use these links? The -5 sounds off though, might be the part.

its sounds like its operating correctly, but it doesnt appear to be calibrated correctly. The gauge should sit at zero with the car on but the engine off. is your gauge mechanical or an electronic stepper type? the electronic stepper ones are adjustable, if its mechanical you're out of luck

ughhh all day in the desert heat and im still stumped on turning the boost gauge off when the car is off but yet it still runs and gets extremely warm to the touch. The car is off and the podi gauge will still sit a -5 psi.

I got the Podi kit from ECS tuning. its a stepper gauge kit.

i have this problem on my car. bought an ECS gauge cause i wanted a vent mount for my b8 instead of a steering column pod and unfortunately ECS's electronic stepper gauge is cheap and cant be calibrated. ill probably switch to a podi at some point and see if someone at sea level wants to buy the ECS one off of me.

Ohhhhh, you guys have that one. Should have gone with the steering column Podi gauge.

oh, you didnt mention that in your original post. if you shut the car completely off, as in key out and it is still on then it sounds like you tapped a constant 12v source instead of a switched one.

as for it not being calibrated, here is a link on how to fix that.

I should have gone with a mechanical also. I took my mechanical podi out of my b6 and ran it in the b8 side by side with the ECS gauge to confirm the ecs one was truly off and that my actual boost readings matched my readings from VCDS. i was shocked by how slow the electronic gauges read compared to the mechanical ones. i'll likely never buy an electronic gauge again.

what wire would be a switch 12v?

i did the RED wire with Black strips like the PODI installation guid in this forum. the red with black strip wire is a 12v switch wire right? BTW i have a 2014 B8.5

i forgot that the podi gauges use a constant and switched 12v source. seeing as you have a b8.5 and the DIY you link is for a b8 theres a good chance the wiring between the two cars is different. If the gauge never shuts off you obviously dont have it wired correctly. I would go back with a test light or have a look through some wiring diagrams to verify a good switched and constant source of power.

    I found a good 12v switch wire.

FOR ALL B8.5 a good switch wire is in the BLACK fuse box with the red and light brown strip wire. Works when the car is on and turns off when car is off!!! 95* degrees plus humidity makes you think more clearly. lol
