    Running 1/4 mile this Sunday

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So I have a 16 S7 EPL, ECU & TCU tune. Im looking for some tips as I have not been to a dragstrip in over 10 years and that was only 1/8 mile. Really curious to see the times I can achieve.

I have launched my car probably 20 times and feel confident in doing that but thats about all. Is a dragstrip's surface a lot more slippery then the regular street? Do I need to worry about loosing traction?

Any advice would be great. Thanks.

Should have left the VR box on and bypassed. That way you could A/B Conclusive proof then. Good luck on the strip!

Only thing I can really tell you is to drive AROUND the water box and go ahead and pull up to the light and stage, no need for attempting any type of burnout or launch to warm the tires. Alot of drag cars pull through the water box but that is because they have skinnies up front, but even some a-holes in street cars do... But they're only hurting themselves and everyone else. The wide tires on our cars will pick up alot of water if you don't drive around it... Then your 60' goes to shit. Aside from that, it is just like launching it on the street.

Drag strip should have better traction if track prep is good and above advice is taken.

Just keep it pointed in the right direction... Good luck!

Ok cool. Yeah I was planning on going around the water box as well. Ive heard that doing burnouts in street tires is pointless and makes you have less traction. Ok wish me luck.
You think I can get into the 11's?

burnout on streets is relatively pointless (knock off crap at best) and the attempt will probably just throw you forward and look silly.

Yeah no problems. I've only done it once so im not the person for giving advice but so something I didn't think of was tyre pressure. I ran uneven and too high. Sciblades I think was said run suspension in comfort but the rest in dynamic

I don't have an S6/7... Yet, so not much help there. As long as track is in good shape and your car isn't heat soaked and DA is good... Car should run whatever it is capable of plus or minus a couple tenths of a second.

Looking forward to hearing how it went.

Well, considering that I ran 12.190 bone stock, I'd certainly expect you to run in the 11s.....

I did a little more reading on starting. Do you always launch on the 3rd yellow light? Cause if you wait til green your reaction time will be slow right?

If you are trying to beat the guy next to you then yes. Otherwise it doesn't matter because the clock doesn't start until you launch.

See if you can monitor your IATs with your OBD tool and wait to run until the IATs have cooled off. There is not much to help high heat (without an AMS Turbo Cooler) and high DAs.

yes that the right way to get a good reaction time but dont worry about your reaction .. just race its about your 1/4 time not the guy next to you for now

Good advice Chris! I will for sure cause I can definitely feel a huge difference in my car when it gets heat soaked! But man in the morning after it gets the temp up it feels good!

I've wondered about this also and did some research. As other have noted before you can leave on the 3rd yellow, but what causes a Red Light then? Is that if you leave before the 3rd yellow? Some race tracks have crazy trees with NO yellows - just goes from Stage to GO!

Do you know which specific light tree your track uses? I spent some time using the reaction tools online for the Pro Tree .400 and felt it made a big difference on the track. I know times are adjusted, but it feels good when everyone at the track sees and talks about you smoking everyone at the track even if it's not as much of a domination as it appears to be. ;-)

Don't expect great times at the Fontana drag strip. It is a notoriously slow track and it is going to be hot this weekend. I've been there twice and my best time on race gas was 13.01 sec @ 106mph. Other than that have fun.

So we are going on Sunday to the Streel Legal drags. Racing starts at 9:00 but gates open at 8:00 AM (we plan on getting there at 8:00). The only thing you need is a Snel helmet and just pay at the gate. They do have a test and tune on Saturday but for scheduling Sunday worked better for us.

Lets ad another S7 to the mix!!!!!!!!!

If you guys get a chance maybe experiment a little with suspension in dynamic vs comfort, I've read it can help times. Also maybe different tire psi. I'm running my stg 2 in a week or so and would like to know if those make a difference.
