Treadstone TR18T with cxracing b5 specific piping and silicon couplers. Unsure of the size of the piping actually. Sort of hard to see but it's there.

Wow, that looks like it fits just right.

Can you still install the grills or not? Doesn't look like it.

I was just going to comment about that. I'm too lazy to look for the dimensions of the APR FMIC.

A large portion of the bumper support bar and some plastic has been trimmed away but it fits pretty decent.

If I got crafty I could get the middle grill to fit but probably not the end grills. I truly haven't tried yet though. Mitch was able to get grills fully into his but his piping was welded up all proper if I recall correctly.

Looks sweet, looking to trying this myself.

If anyone has piping sizing that'd be awesome.

Np. Just looked the tr18t is 2.5" in/out and the piping kit comes with 2.25" pre intercooler and 2.5" post inter cooler piping as well as the necessary silicone couplings.

I designed the TR18T for this very reason. Worked with them for over a year on it. Even got a commission check not agreed upon because so many sold on the intro buy (Hugh@EuropaParts is a personal friend and hosted it for me, but we never met prior). Deal was I give them a $500 deposit for the mold process (cost more than that, but Jason told me he was being nice). If I sold at least 10 when complete, I get my deposit back. If not, they keep it. Sold so many on the intro buy he said I went above and beyond the initial agreement. So happy that he even cut me a $500 commission check, along with my original $500 deposit back. And for clarity, I have absolutely zero affiliations with them.

I wanted an efficient intercooler that would fit behind the stock bumper while allowing the retaining of AC, fog lights, and all bumper grills. Had email conversations companies while searching. Kinetic ended up being the nicest with a 2.75" thick core, and they have a B5 A4 test car. Very helpful people if you ever wanted to contact them for whatever reason. But end of the day, they also had to get rid of bumper grills. Fitment on pic they sent me was very nice, yet still not what I wanted. All this also had to be able to handle 400whp apps. At this point, custom was the only way to get it done. But I didn't want to pay custom money (easily can be $1,000+). Brainstormed, and contacted Treadstone to see if they would mass produce an intercooler in specs I wanted. Hence, the agreement and how it unfolded aforementioned.

I used my car for dimensions and I still have the CAD test drawings they sent me on my home pc (on my laptop right now). After a few changes in specs, we ended up with what is sold now. First batch also had bungs on top, which a few have. That was last change to be made (B7 guy requested me to have bungs welded on top, for those who were part of the process. but when I received mine from first batch, I was reminded why I wanted weld on tabs on end tanks. I chose specs from my car and just about every last inch was used. height now was an issue on my car...but not the b7. haha. anyways, had Jason stick with my original design.). I even wanted to go a little wider than my original design, and Jason advised against it. He has been doing this for a while, and his experiences prov ed to grant prudent ways to go about thing (pretty sure he made many goofs along the way, only to literally pay for not going with the original design. he basically suggested I stick with my original dimensions chosen) so happy he gave the suggestion he did. Reason being, with piping on the end tanks (inlet/outlet) it is basically at it's limit. Even an extra 1/2" on each side would make install difficult for some, and still grateful he swayed me from that decision. Anjyways, end of the day many ended up with an intercooler that fits on many apps, pressure velocity drop that hardly effects stock turbos if anything, and can suit a bunch of applications. But anyways, you also now know why it is called the TR18T (I have a 1.8T ).

I have the Treadstone 1.8t intercooler with the CXracing 2.5 in piping kit. Its a great kit and for the most part fits without modification. Though I would buy flexible hump couplers for some sections. This is what I have. I have mine painted black so its covert. Its also possible to fit all the grill pieces to include fogs. You WILL have to trim the backside of the bumper to make this work. But from the outside looks stock.

Original Vet who was part of the process. I took everybody's suggestions into consideration during process, and many are are existent in the final product design if you were to order one today. This is when this section had a bunch who mod their cars, and we discussed as a community before I sent the initial email. Some, like NYNoah, even contributed to the initial $500 deposit. Everyone received back what they contributed end of group buy. This is what Audizine used to be like, in this section anyways. This is why many old timers don't post anymore. The fun sort of no longer exists.

If you could read part of our email conversations prior to the end of the initial intro GB (probably 75 exchanges through process), I was basically anticipating not getting my deposit back (offered to pay people back what they contributed if we did not get it back, and as a community nobody accepted that offer and would have taken the loss right along with me. Of course I paid the most at a couple hundred, but every dollar made things much easier This is what real modding is about, and it's the fun in it that can make it one of the most expensive hobbies. You win, you lose, but the journey is what you will remember.). But after asking for an update on an email exchange on how many sold (after receiving previous replies when asking how many sold like, "2, 3, still 3"), I receive this response. Reward for trying to think outside the box...I guess

May I ask how many uey gavenits have sold so far? And also how much longer the group buy can continue? I know there are a couple who still want to purchase, but need to wait for their tax return checks (being broke with the mod bug is not a nice thing to have). Thanks!

What's going on Jason. Hopefully the Group Buy went really well and you are happy with this designed intercooler you now have in your inventory. Trust me when I say you guys are the only company on the market with dimensions in this size. I searched long and hard before contacting you guys.

I was wondering when is it you wanted me to update the group buy threads that the group buy is over? Once you do, I'll have the vendor that is hosting the group buy update the original post stating the Group Buy is closed.

And out of curiosity, would you mind telling me on average how many were sold?

    Thanks,
    Mitch

I posted the CAD drawing earlier, but it just now dawned on me people reading the thread may have the gall to take those specs and do who knows what with it. So, drawing removed.

    TR18T, with modified CX Racing piping (2.0" cold-side, 2.5" hot-side). Using a 2.5" 30-deg silicone coupler on the TR18T hot-side outlet. Using a straight 2.5"-->2.0" coupler + a 30 deg. 2.0" silicone coupler on the inlet piping at the TR18t.

Kept fogs and the fog grills needed to be trimmed a bit. Not too much trimming of the center bumper grill was required.

I'm also using the eBay polyurethane "Type L" bumper valence. It has a TON more room for FMIC, about 2" more than the stock valence. Obviously this means you have to be even more careful exiting/entering driveways if you're lowered, but totally worth it for me.

LLtek mesh and metal Home Depot mesh (plasti-dipped) to replace the sides, when I bottomed out and cracked one. Wanted to make things look symmetrical.

If you search honeycomb rs4 mod in the search function under the B5 A4 and B5 S4 subsection, there are threads on these. Both sections have DIY threads floating around in them.

To also draw the piping close to the car, you can cut out the bottom corners below the shock bumper holes (in addition I cut off a good portion of the oem steal ic piping which ditched weight, cleaned up the bay and made hand room as those ic stubs stick out into open air if needing to get in and around there. Really helpful when I needed to get to my bottom mounted dv.

Random pic, with out the cuts. On the left cut just below the tow hook and take out that entire corner (cleanly), and repeat on the right side:

Another trick in tandem (however not needed, just gives that much more clearance), is a fmic with ~45 degree end caps:

This set up you can do what ever the hell you want. However not a B5, look how amazingly tight and compact you can get it (with the corners cut on the oem rad support):

You and I both have that valence sag in the middle from the tr18t, I can't fit the fog lights without trimming the fogs by its self

I also need to do the Mesh DIY! What did you use to stick the mesh to the bumper? Type of glue?

The minor sag used to bother me at first, but no longer. There are ways to fix it, such as using a heat gun to remold. Or repositioning the intercooler.

And not to sound rude, but use the search function to find the DIY threads on the mesh. This is why I mentioned it earlier.
