    3.0T's Avant

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I’ve been meaning to make a thread for a while now, but since I just went stage 2, I figured it’s about time!

    2011 A6 Avant 3.0T Prestige S-Line

It took me 8 months to find the right car with the options I wanted. I finally found her at Carmax (of all places!) priced way below what similar cars were going for at the time. I got it in December 2014 with 24k on the clock.

Since then, I’ve made a few upgrades:

    Clear side markers
    Custom intake system
    GIAC Stage 2+
    Valentine V1 Hardwired
MMI iPhone lightning cable adapter with magnetic cell phone mount
19” S5 wheels refinished in OEM matte titanium (from black optics package), wrapped in Conti DW’s
    Modified OEM Q5 roof rack

    WHEELS
I found an unbeatable deal on a set of 3 bent S5 wheels that I had to scoop up. I then found another AZ member selling a single wheel in great condition to complete my set. I then brought them to my local wheel repair shop, who were able to straighten out the bends.
Then to really make them special, I had them powdercoated in the same OEM matte titanium finish that comes on Audi’s with the black optics package. They came out amazing!

    Loaded up, ready for refinishing!

    Results

    RACK
Again, I found an unbeatable deal on an OEM Q5 rack, so I picked it up. When going to install I found it was a little bit too long, so I broke out the measuring tape and dremel and got to work.
I found that the front needed to be shortened by about 2”, and the rear about an 1 ½”. I disassembled the drivers side of the rack, measured, cut, then reassembled. The only other thing that needed to be done was shaving off one of the nubs from the inside clamp. On our cars, there are 2 indents on the inside edge of the roof rail. The Q5 rack has 3 nubs on the drivers side. Shaving off the excess nubs allows the rack to align perfectly with the C6 avant’s stock mounting points.

Eventually I’ll get a bike rack and/or cargo box up there to make it useful. Unfortunately this is the only picture I have right now

    FUTURE PLANS
Custom exhaust system, similar to B5BAR :-D
    H&R Rear sway bar
    Coilovers
    Tint

    Custom Intake

It took me a while to find a solution that's both simple, effective, and costs less than half of other intake systems on the market for our cars.

    Supplies you'll need:
    (1) 3.5" Silicone Coupler
    (1) 3.0" Silicone Coupler
    (1) Silicone Reducer, Bend 45* 3.5"- 3.0"
    (3) 3.0" T-bolt clamps
    (3) 3.5" T-bolt clamps
    (1) 3.5" Joiner
    (1) 3.0" Joiner with tap
    (1) 8mm barbed hose fitting

I used this website for most of my supplies: www.siliconeintakes.com

If you use the 3.0" joiner with taps that I used (HERE), you'll also need some plugs for the additional holes that are tapped. These worked nicely http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ilpage_o09_s00.
Siliconeintakes doesn't have an 8mm barbed hose fitting that worked with their tapped joiner, so I also sourced that on Amazon http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ilpage_o07_s00

Using this system definitely opens up that S/C whine! I haven’t dyno’d the car to see if there’s any power gains, but comparing this setup to stock shows how restrictive the intake is from the factory. In my experience, freeing up airflow is always beneficial.

I installed using this air filter http://afepower.com/shop/details_new...2L&&brandID=59
It's a direct fit, and the only one I've found that's reusable for our platform. Their website states that it only fits the 3.2, but I can assure you it also fits the 3.0T perfectly. I'd recommend it to anyone looking to take on this project.

    AFE FILTER VS. STOCK

    TEST FITTING...

    RESULTS

Eventually I'll probably paint the t-clamps black so it looks more subtle, but I've been running this setup in my car now for over a year. Never had any issues.

Thanks man! I've done coils on quite a few of my cars in the past, but that was before the wife and baby were in the picture haha. If I drop this car, it will only be slightly to help with the wheel gap. Plus, losing the stock ride quality is something I've been nervous about, and mostly why I haven't pulled the trigger yet.

Nice Avant! I would have loved to pick up an Avant to have two wagons in the family, but I've been happy with my C6.5 sedan all the same.

Also, glad you know of XLR8 as well. I've been working with Josh and his crew for over 10 years (back when it was just Josh). They've built a number of cars for me (currently working on my NSX). I trust their work implicitly.

I actually saw the car first and then saw this thread a day or 2 later.

Will your intake mod fit a 2010 A6 3.0T? Also how do you like the GIAC Stage 2 +?

It will fit any 3.0T motors for sure. I haven't tried it, but I would bet with a little tweaking it would fit the 3.2 as well, since the intake tubes are interchangeable.

Stage 2 is awesome, definitely the way the car should have come from the factory. I did a lot of research before deciding on GIAC, but ultimately went with them because I liked the idea of having the handheld program switcher, and that it comes with a 100 octane tune.

    Also,
What is the barbed fitting for in your intake? are you Meth injected?

Did you go with the dry filter or oiled filter as well?

Yes it does. GIAC partnered with AWE for the stage 2 pulley upgrade. The only way to use their software is with a corresponding (serial #'d) pulley from AWE.

The barbed fitting is for a vacuum line. No methanol yet..though I bet it would help since this car seems to be affected a lot by heat.

I used the dry filter. My original reason was to prevent debris or oil residue from coating any sensors. Since then I've read that these cars use MAP's instead of MAF's and there's really no harm in using the oiled filters.

Awesome. I ordered my intake pieces yesterday. Looking at the GIAC Tune as well. We have 100 octane locally on the pump, so I like that option as well. Really appreciate the post. Exhaust and coil overs are next.

    I'll post pics afterwards.

I have GIAC stage 2 with a non AWE pulley, and it works great. AWE overcharges for their pulley so went with an alternative. You could go with the APR or Revo pulley. A local shop near me machines their own pulleys and provides them for customers. But they haven't officially released to the public yet.

What vendor did you go with to get the GIAC Stage 2? I've looked on their website and they list a dealer close to me in Richmond VA, but they are no longer in business or the phone number has changed.

I'm running that AFE dry filter in my wifes 3.2 and really like it. I only bought it so I had a reusable
filter because it was a pain to order and wait.....It fit perfect and the car seems to like it,even gave
a little growl in the higher RPM's......How do you like it in the 3.0t?
