Moving to Mercedes C Class Convertible from A5

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Placed the order today. After sitting in a C class coupe at the dealership I just like the Merc interior so much better than the next gen A5. The convertible interior will be the same. Will probably come in around October or November so I will enjoy my 2013 A5 a little longer.

I always thought that MB "C class" wise their interior was their weak part compared to say a E or S series. For instance i looked at a 2011 C63 AMG last year before my S5 and the interior was nothing more than a SLIGHTLY upgraded C-class interior. Kinda odd for a car that was 75k MSRP, the B8 interior was LIGHT years ahead of it. Not to mention more refined. Granted we are talking 2016 here, but year for year compared to a S5, the C63 interior was a MAJOR let down. It looked like the interior from a 2006 MB car, not to mention did not have the Audi refinement.

That said have they really updated the C-class interiors? I will have to check. Hey man, whatever makes you happy that is all that matters. Its ok to try new cars.

Nice. Those new C class coupes are awesome. The interior looks great. With the next gen A5 looking like a huge bust I think you made a great call. Take some pics when you get it.

Everything looks great on the MB except the fixed display screen which I think looks like a poor Best Buy install and is a crying shame.

The B9 A4 interior felt a lot more plasticky than the B8 to me. The configurable dash display is fancy, but not really my thing.

Agreed. This new iPad look is horrible. Sadly all the manufacturers are moving towards it.

which is reason enough to wait for the new E-Class, which will not/NOT adapt the "stick-on, afterthought" navscreen concept ... this is what I'm waiting for

Only seen it on Mazdas and lower end MBs so far. BMW isn't doing it. It needs to stop.

3 series has it. I don't know about the other models.

Oddly enough, the interior was the biggest reason for me going with an S5 vs. a CLA45 AMG. I didn't like the nav screen that looked like it was mounted by a child.

Not a "flame" but I think the CLA45 and the C series have nice looking interiors. But compared to a B8/B8.5 S4/S5 it's not in the same league "refinement" wise. Feel of the leather, buttons, dash, everything you touch. I haven't really came across anything interior wise on my S5 that I feel they skimped on honestly build quality wise. At least IMO. Although I HATE the B8 wheel compares to the B8.5 flat bottom, forgot about that lol.

I checked out a CLA45amg and they are badass inside but some things felt "plasticky" to me. BUT....

YOU CAN get a fully spec'd out CLA45 with leather dash and the Recaro seats. But of course with MB luxury tax which will easily put you into the 60k range.

Now you can always step up to a C63, the new model interiors are insane. But what are they 90-95k?

These would be those upgraded seats and prob has the leather dash trimming etc. Compared to the base seats I included.

    @vanimal

    I seriously disagree.

every button in the c class has a premium feel to it. I love the toggle switches on the main waterfall, they all have a nice weight to them and feel fantastic.

Same with even the seat adjustment or the window switches. All very high quality feeling buttons.

I would say my S4 seats were better than the base c class seats, but other than that the c class blows it away. I have a leather sticked dash, for example. Pretty awesome.

Maybe the CLA45 I sat in was a base model. Didn't have a leather dash & it had pop up door locks on the panel, I didn't realize they still did that in German cars. I think it kind of looked like this. I'm sure there's a lot more variants.

Don't get me wrong I think the CLA45 is a sweet little car, fast too for a 2.0 4cyl. If I would move to any MB "4 door" it would be the 6.3L V8 C63. Actually took a peek at one local, it was Mars red, I really like them in metallic silver.

But with living in PA and the hassle of no AWD, if I moved to a 4 door in the future I'd buy a nice CPO B8.5 S4,.I just love how they look especially when tastefully done up. I never buy brand new anyway.

Drove the CLA at the audi driving experienec last year and it was the biggest surprise favorite - considering I went in with the lowest expectations for that car. Sounds great and handled like a dream... and this was stacked against an A3 quatro and 235xdrive. I'm looking forward to driving the C coupe.

I drove a 2017 A4 S Line as a loaner car when I had my 35,000 mile service done. I don't really see a big difference in the quality of materials. I just like the interior design of the Merc a whole lot better than that A/C strip running almost the whole width of the dash.

Not butt hurt here. The new C Class has a great interior. I much prefer it over the B9. If I had an A5 I might make the switch as well, but not for my S5.

I sold my S5 and got a C350 Coupe + Honda CRZ (for Daily)

The 2 years I've had the C350, its a very A to B car. Very boring and not engaging what so ever. The interior is nice (full red seats)...but that's really all I could brag about.

My lady at the time hated that car. Said it was basic because she almost got into the wrong car when I was on my way to pick her up lol.

Nothing wrong with this choice, but I have a feeling you'll be back ;)
