Anyone know the status of the Girl in the Jeep and the guy driving the RS4? Previous thread was locked and I can't find any info on the net. I believe the girl is in a medically induced coma? Sad.... Curious to see if she pulled through...

There is a page that her mother is posting updates, but you'll have to create a user name/password for free in order to view it.

    https://www.caringbridge.org/public/leahjohn

She was initially in a medical induced coma, and has been in and out of surgeries since the day of the accident.

    It's seriously awful.

The driver of the car, Christopher Grossy, is still going around calling the young girl (20 years old I believe) a "b*tch" for "cutting him off", even though several witnesses described his speeds at 100 + mph (speed limit on the road was 45 mph). A very cowardly and heinous attempt to save face. The forensics team has already determined his speed, and that information hasn't been released to the public yet (only to the family) but a source close to the family says he is looking at a very large lawsuit because of his excessive speeds and reckless driving during the time of the accident. It's been described that he was "tearing through gears like he was on fast & the furious" and "clearly showing off because his car was loud and there were many pedestrians walking around the front of the shopping center" which he crashed in front of.

Here are a couple of the updates for those that don't want to register:

God I can't imagine she pain she is and will be going through for a LONG time. Burns suck so bad, and her road to being fully recovered is going to take so fucking long to get through.

Hell even if she was completely at fault (which isnt close to possible) the dude should still have more compassion then he's done so far for what she is going through

YUP.. driver sounds like a real piece of work if he's putting blame squarely on her and calling her a B*tch... not cool... considering what she's going through a bit of compassion would be nice... if he truly is at fault and talking like this I hope they take him for everything he's worth.... unbelievable....

My god. That's a scary thought, being unconscious in a burning vehicle. I'm really glad there were people around that helped her get out of the car.

I feel like this is the argument to sue gun makers when someone gets shot. . . . It's the guy hitting the go pedal that is at fault IMO.

I'll be surprised if they don't have "for offroad use only" clause that they make a customer sign.

Agreed. At fault or not, show some class and be compassionate towards a young girl that is severely injured.

He has no remorse, and no concern for anyone but himself.

Might as well go for Vigo too since its HIS mouth that put all this into action but like Accrual's thoughts, you can't blame the gunmaker for someone pulling the trigger; fabricator/company doesn't know what the owner has the "means" to do even if they facilitated the tool to create the "means"

"Offroad use only" is the gold standard waiver for any performance shop or parts fabricator legal shield I've seen.

Yes, a ~20 year old white blonde cute college girl getting smashed in by some douche will not look good if this goes to jury trial. If the dude is smart and has the means (sounds like he has some cash to play or perhaps a house to sell), he should settle or he has a strong chance of getting a criminal record which would be more costly in the long run. Her family will go full force on him, or at least I would if that were my daughter. This is when money can save your ass, whether hiring a top attorney in the nation or paying off the family.

I feel ashamed of being part of a great enthusiast community of high performance cars, and modding. We all share the same passion (go fast, look cool, working on cars), even this douche did, and at some level, we are all similar. Its just that he got caught and we haven't. yet.

Doubt they have a provable claim against DTT. Even an unmodded RS4 can hit the speeds the driver allegedly was driving at so it would be very hard to argue that, but for the DTT mods, the car would not have been going this fast and the accident would not have happened.
That said, DTT will surely be named as a defendant and, in order to avoid the publicity and expense of a trial, DTT will likely work with its insurance carrier in working out a contribution to the settlement amount.

And, even if the RS4 driver is completely faultless, which seems really unlikely, he has really hurt his defense with his idiotic, compassionless public statements about the girl. As they say, anything you say can and will be used against you. Count on it.

Sickening to read those comments from him...

On the criminal side of things; I'd be surprised if anything that he gets charged with sticks. Sounds like he has some Mommy/Daddy money. He will be able to afford a good lawyer. Zero faith in our judicial system after everything I've experienced...

On the civil sides of things she will probably get a fairly decent sized settlement to cover all the hospital bills, and the years of rehabilitation work she will have to do. She will probably have to drop out of school, that will delay her graduation, and that will delay everything else in her life. Personal injury lawyer will have no problem getting the policy limits on a case like this.

    Lawd 'ave mercy!!

That poor girl, I hope she pulls through, and recovers from this ordeal.

As for the tool who was driving that B7 RS4...he's got a lot to answer for, and his total unfeeling attitude towards a young girl who is critically injured...that's really cold. No human compassion.

It's difficult to say how fast he barrelled through that intersection, I would say it was definitely less than the claimed 100mph. At that speed, and impact with an SUV, that V8 would have been forced into the passenger compartment, and at best, the driver would have been pinned in, and required cutting free. But, there's no doubt his approach speed was greater than the posted 45mph.

I wonder if he even hit the brakes, just before impact?

From the incident description, the jeep was traveling same direction (45mph) and changed lanes in front of the RS4 (so about 55mph difference)... which was traveling more than twice the speed limit, nearly impossible to see that coming for the jeep driver. I see this frequently on the autobahn, but those kinds of speeds are okay there and drivers are on the lookout for fast approaching vehicles from the rear... definitely not through a damn intersection. That chump needs prison time and major financial punishment.

Even there in Germany (Barvaria specifically), i've had people cut me off on approach. Judging approach speed of a vehicle from behind is not something people/humans really do in a blink of an eye. She shouldn't have been changing lanes in an intersection and he DAMN WELL shouldn't have been going that fast. If he didn't have enough time to stop, that means she possibly changed lanes without looking. Both are wrong.

At those speeds he was going she probably did not see him - especially to understand that he was not doing 45 but 100.

Just read through everything. I feel very sorry for this young girl Leah... Asshats drive like this in Atlanta all the time. I drive fast sometimes in my 370z.. but I do it on the highway with 4 open lanes. Driving 100+ through an intersection is fucking stupid, he deserves every bit of criminal and financial punishment he receives. I don't have kids, but if I did I certainly wouldn't be driving like this... what an inconsiderate asshole. I haven't personally witnessed a wreck this bad though. Props to the man who pulled her out. All things aside, the passenger compartment of the RS4 held up well, and I read that the front crash bar was removed.

I'm not one for prayer, but I really hope she recovers. She does not deserve this. If someone hit me or my family like this I would be livid.

Anyone know how she is doing as of late?

If you go to this thread, ryanhmusic has been updating it with the posts her mother has been making in a different forum.

Leah moved up to the rehab hospital yesterday. She did not get up there until late in the afternoon and by the time she got there she was pretty tired. This morning they got her out of bed and sitting in a chair. By the time we got there, she had been in the chair for a little over an hour and she was beat. After being in bed for a month, it was quite a feat. We got her back in bed and she had her dressing changes and by then, she needed a good nap.

This afternoon after she took a nap and ate lunch, the physical therapist came in and she had therapy from 2:30-4. She said that is was hard but good. The therapist had her stand with a walker and take some steps. She got dizzy the first time, but said that is was better the second time. All of the little baby steps will turn into big steps.

Kevin and I went out to the Lancaster area this afternoon and attended a banquet for the celebration for the end of Camp Susquehanna, the camp for kids that are burn survivors. WHat an inspirational event. We sat at a table with some older kids that are now "Leaders in training". These are kids that are 18-21 that were at one time campers and are now learning how to be counsellors. There was even a girl that came all the way from Isreal. Several of Leah's nurses at the hospital also volunteer their time as counsellors. The love in that room was incredible. WE are so glad that we went. it was very uplifting during such a trying time for us.

Please continue your prayers that Leah continues to make good progress.
