So there is a place here called Brakes for less, they advertise $140 for 4 wheel brake job, any car, any brand, resurface rotors and replacement pads are Centric ceramics. I was skeptical and looked up Centric and it turns out they make Stop-Tech products. What do you guys think? Good deal, or steer clear?

    $140 Brake Job

Do it yourself. Sooo easy, sooo many DIYs. Dont get brakes done at a cheap joint either. My 2 cents.

I was planning to do it myself, and the parts are about the same as having them do it, so I was curious.

Centric is a good brand. I use their high carbon discs and Posi-Quiet pads. No issues. Lowest price I've seen for them has been Parts Geek.

Agree with Mr Tyler above--don't get brakes done at a cheap joint. They are easy enough to do yourself, and if you don't have VCDS to retract the rear caliper, find someone in your local regional area to help you.

I have learned through my Audi ownership that its always better to pay a little more and find a shop that has experience specifically working on Audi's. But don't go to the dealer because they overcharge for everything.

What is the worst that can happen? It is totally worth saving a few bucks.

This is the only reason why I asked the question they really seemed to be using good parts and like you guys said really easy.... what could they screw up? I am getting close to installing a set of Billstein's anyway so doing the brakes at the same time will help. but it sure would be nice for someone else to do the work for the same $ I have access to the auto hobby shop on base so that's a huge help I am hoping they can turn the rotors there.

Honestly, it's that price point. The discs alone should cost you close to, if not more, than $140 alone, not including pads. Then there is the brake fluid, and more importantly, the labor. $140 inclusive is shortchanging you somewhere. So they could screw up an awful lot!

Brakes are far easier to do than installing a suspension. While it's up on the lift, go ahead and change them yourself.

It does and it doesn't. Something like brakes, if you have any common sense and a good day to do it, can be done by about anyone. Paying someone to do those, to me, is not worth it. Now if it was like an engine rebuild, then sure, I would trust a shop more for those.

How are they making money if they are using good parts? They are probably paying a kid something close to minimum wage to install the brakes.

People want to save money (hell, I LOVE to save money), but I will not cut corners when it comes to maintaining an expensive car. Find a good indie VW/Audi shop if you are not the DIY type.

No way they are using ceramic pads and good rotors, even at wholesale they are going to be over $300. I bought the centric rotors and HPS pads and it was nearly $500. They rope you in with a bargain rate and by the time you leave they are telling you that a bunch of other shit is wrong, that's how they make the money.

But brakes are easy enough to do I wouldn't waste the money paying someone else. Plus you could buy another mod with the money you saved.

i can't speak on the low price, but as far as the Centric brand, i've used them with no issues, had Centric ceramic pads on my rear for the past 50k no issues, still not even that low. and i got new Centric rotors on my front for almost a year now and it's good, they are definitely a good, affordable but quality brand.

Called a "turn & hang" in the trade.

And once they get you in the door, they'll try and up-sell you their overpriced rotors when they find yours are at or near the thickness limit.
Read the fine print. If the price is too good to be true, it's too good to be true. I avoid places like this like the plague.
