034 front trans mount insert install - HELP

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
i was installing the 034 trans mount insert, removed the two bolts and then went to re-install the bolts and they will not catch. When i was removing them, the trans shifted a little so i think the holes are not lining up. I have no idea where/how to pry on the trans to re-align. has anyone run into this and have any tips? I really need this back together ASAP. Would it be ok to take to a shop as is and get it on a lift and see if they can get the bolts back in?

    Thanks,

    -scott

I'm not sure exactly what to say about realigning the transmission other than the fact that you should be able to budge it back into place with a pry bar, but whatever you do do not drive your car with the transmission not bolted into the mount.

I was able to get one bolt in, but the other will not go. I am a bit tight on room (only on jack stands). I suppose one is better than none. Going to keep fighting it and see what happens. Really annoying considering the instructions seemed to make it out to be really simple.

Have you tried putting the trans in neutral and letting the transmission settle into its natural position? I did this before removing the bolts and had no issue removing or reinstalling them.

I started with it in neutral and neither would go in. I then put it in 1st and one went in. I'll try some other gears and see if this solves the problem. Bah, now its raining and i need to get this wrapped up!

Shouldn't be running it without the bolts in... Do you have the Ebrake on?

Definitely, that will hold load on the axle and lift the trans.

Well i got it in...had to do a bunch of wiggling and whatnot but it went in. I loosened the three 13mm bolts that are on the mount and that seemed to help out. Man, did not expect this to take me 2 hours. oh well, lets see how it performs...

I had a very similar experience installing my trans mount. I could only get one bolt in and the other one was not aligning. The fact that something so simple took 2 hours was extremely frustrating....but I'm glad to hear you got it sorted it out.

I had ebrake on and on 4 inch ramps and didn't have any issues. I was squeezed under there tight too, glad I didn't run into your issue.

Yeah, oh well at least its wrapped up. The difference to me is not much, but on startup you feel the motor more at least in the gear shifter. I recently had the front rear insert installed, so i guess the difference is a little muted because of that. Non-the-less i am happy with it.

I appreciate all the help and suggestions folks.

Problem is when you pull up on ramps and set the parking brake and don't let the car settle. It binds and pushes the tranny up, once hats done there isn't much you can do.
