Screw for Positive Battery Terminal Clamp Rounded, Replacement?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Does any know where I can find the screw-T-bolt (with Nut) for the Positive Battery Terminal Clamp? I removed the battery for the first time today and the older bolt was corroded to the point that as while reinstalling the clamp onto the battery, it somehow rounded and the clamp doesn't sit firmly onto the battery.

    - - - Updated - - -

    Looks something like this,

I figure I could just cut the old one out and slip just a new bolt in

The problem is that its the terminal end which has rounded, not the bolt to be exact. The corner of that square end of the bolt is what caused the terminal to round off (the terminal end appears to be made out of cheap metal)

Bring it to your local hardware store and you should be able to find a near exact match for a dollar or two.

Thanks, how should I bring that in? Cut if off? Why can't I just use a standard nut and bolt?

Also I would assume a new bolt (similar to the one picture) will strip the terminal even more from the side

Can't believe how cheap the metal is

    I didn't read it all :)

You can get a new terminal, or you can use channel locks or a crescent wrench to hold the square headed bolt to tighten it down- or to remove it and replace it with a bolt of your choice.

It's not that it's cheap metal, it's that it's very conductive.

The nut was seized, otherwise the channellock idea would have worked (I tried this shortly before realizing the nut had amazingly eaten into the thread of the bolt, wow) I had no choice but to hacksaw the bolt out. Went to a couple of hardware shops and Autozone and they didn't have the correct sizes.

It's too hazardous to drive without tightening the terminal.

I keep getting confused on what's going on lol. The terminal should be soft-ish. The bolts/nuts shouldn't be.

If you drive with the terminal not clamped you risk losing contact and your car dying.

I hope this holds up. A $5 on Amazon whereas dealership charges $45 (includes Terminal), could be more

Home Depot does and so does Menards and Lowes, but for some reason they all decided making hardware sections very confusing and hard to find/difficult to find what you need. And their metric sections are pitiful. Ace ftw.

I couldn't get the bold head in all the way to make contact with the terminal, however, the nut is tight and snug, not sure how long this will hold up, hopefully I get a replacement bolt soon.

I have not, I thought that required splicing
I'd rather change just the bolt since the wire doesn't exhibit any problems.

Were you able to get a replacement/fix for this? This bolt is quite a common point of failure (IMHO) on the positive battery terminal. Mine (on a C6) is currently stripped and can't hold the clamp; I am looking to get a temporary solution and take it the dealership.
