    Audi almost killed my bf...kinda

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So this happened right now while my bf was changing his tire. the lovely jack that comes with the car fell and smashed his arm. even crazier the fire dept attempted to put the tire back on (see red arrow) and the jack fell again, luckily not injuring anyone this time.

....look at the the fire man behind my bf trying to put the tire back on, if you zoom in. even he's like wtf lol

People still use those deathtraps? Sucks for the boyfriend and possibly you?
but hopefully he and other newer members here learn its a item that's better off being tossed or put in the removed stock parts box so it isn't a option.

Just since I'm curious why was his arm under the car?

haha yeah he knows better yet he used it anyway so....

and he was holding the tire putting it back on so his hand was on top of the tire when the jack fell smashing his wrist area because the tire wasnt on yet. idk I was in our apt when I heard him yelling for help and when I got down there I saw a domino's pizza employee and one of our neighbors lifting the car.

I dont want to sound like a dick but it was kinda hilarious. only after I found out he was ok of course

    Ah ya well then....
Now he actually knows and lucky people were around to help. One of my biggest fears is having a car fall on me. What's the medical diagnosis. Plus now you can always throw this in his face if he gets uppity

Those jacks should really only be for last resort emergencies only... even then they are more likely to cause a real emergency situation (as proven). I had to use it on the side of the road, And I was sure as hell to put the spare tire between the bottom of the car and the road. I'd rather have a scuffed spare than a crushed head (or hand in your BF's case). Floorjack, everytime, when possible (and jackstands or wheel underneath once lifted)

Hope he gets to feeling better physically (the pride will take much much longer )

I've had a widowmaker take a shot at me once with my MKV GLI. Bitch missed, but still.

Never trust ANY jack. Only trust a properly placed quality jack stand.

Even when using a decent floor jack, always slide something (spare wheel, anything) under the sill. It doesn't have to support anything, it is there just in case. Like this - .

Thankfully you were around to help/call for help. Anyone that works alone should ditch that jack now and buy a proper one and stands.

I said this in my mind before scrolling down...

I admit I still have the widow maker in my Audi as it is more stable as the one in my old Jetta. That one fell almost every time I used it so I got a 4 ton van scissor jack. Weighed a shit ton but boy was it stable. Just needed to find room to store it.

But like the above post, just throw the spare under while you are working. Then switch it out with the blown.

My gf and I were going over the pass one year in her Mazda protege and we got a flat. We tried using the widow maker jack but the damn thing kept sliding out because we were on the hill side. I ended up just deadlifting the rear of the car up while she put on the spare because that was easier and safer. It also totally made me look like a hero lifting up the car.

Even the one time I got a flat in the middle of nowhere, someone helped me and as soon as they took the flat off I told them to slide it under the car to be safe while putting the spare on. lol

He's swapped the motor in my car without(less) injuries haha

I had to use my widow maker in the case of an emergency once. It also collapsed (before I could even take my tire off) and fucked my side skirt up. Idk why but I still have it in my trunk.

The Nissan jacks work perfect. I suggest picking up one of those.

    Those VAG jacks are absolute

I've had mine collapse. Luckily, my arm wasn't underneath the car, so it missed me. Can't say the same about the car though, it damn near punched a hole in the floor pan. Bitch.

These days, I use a 2-ton hydraulic bottle jack, the offending Audi jack is somewhere in my garage, I'm not sure exactly where, and couldn't care less.

If you don't own a hydraulic jack and jack stands, don't even bother working on your car.
