4.2 preformance. What is out there for parts?

Simply put; what's out there? Doesn't seem like much. So far I have suspension, brakes (front brembos yet to be put on) , bigger sway bars, custom exhaust with 2 cats gone, little porsche goodies (oil cap). Other than getting s6 or s8 motor parts or a pes supercharger, what else is out there for the 4.2 that I don't know about ?

Not much that makes a difference. It's a muscle car vs. the 'street car' attitude of the 2.7. So unless you really put some effort into it or build an engine you just accept the reliability and live with it. Any of the mods you'll find will require both a decent amount of work and a bit of cash for not a lot of power increase.
Supposedly Daz's (RIP) tune helped a little and for the $100 he typically charged was probably worth it, but I don't know if you can still get the deal.

He was going to send me the emissions delete file for the 4.2 with a couple tweaks..but it wasn't a priority and now I missed out. Hoping to find someone out there who has it for the BBD engine...

I did get the Daz tune. From what I remember I think he told me there wasn't much to be done to a 4.2 and he coded out my rear o2s and increased my throttle map

2.7 is the best performance mod for a 4.2

Coming to think of it, in last 4+ years of daily beating the crap out of 2.7t tial 770 car, I was down only two times, both clutch related and that until I found a product that actually works fine. First time it was FX750 twin plate losing lining on 6krpm "launch" (failed attempt at making donuts) and second time was fidanza flywheel loosing tone ring somewhere around 7k rpms... So no, not 2.7t specif problem related, moreover to enjoy 4.2 in full you'd have to actually swap it to 6mt :)

And the talk about 4.2 reliability is very overstated as every 4.2 is doomed from the get-go by audi using these "awesome" chain tensioners for timing chain.

That's only an issue on the AR 4.2. The A6/S6/RS6 4.2 has a timing belt.

A couple of snails, or a single, fat man-sized snail conversion. And a manual swap will really make your 4.2 V8 40V "wake up", if you're still tip.

Besides the above, nothing, at least nothing that will make an appreciable difference for the money spent.

If you are ready to spend $, here is the short list:
Cat delete, sai delete, repair / rebuild intake valves / manifold, h-sports, coil-overs, 17z or 18z, exhaust system. That is about the extent of the 4.2 mod list. It is a gentleman's car

That 4.2 is a reliable engine. I look the look of your widebody with the s6 wheels. Do you have spacers on there?

If you have the disease like most of us, this wont be your last audi.

True, skimmed the thread and assumed that's AR :)

All that's left is the 6spd conversion.

They are 18 inch s8 wheels with 30mm bolt on spacers. Already have cat delete, sai delete, rs6 sway bars and 4 piston brembos from a touareg ready to go on. 2.5 inch vibrant mufflers and resonators. Lowered on H&R suspension rides pretty good

If you really want it to be all it can be, and what it was actually designed to be, take that crap, heavy transmission out of it and stick a 6MT in it's place. Does more for the car, in every way, than any mod mentioned in this thread so far.

I wonder how the 4.2 would feel paired with a long gear 5 speed gearbox?

I sometimes wish 6th was a little longer in mine as the throttle response and torque is so good simply because the the MT box. However, being able to fly past things on the freeway from 60 without changing down is rather nice.

Which 6sp did you use? (or what are the gear ratios?)

Mine came out of an 01 2.7. As far as I know it's standard ratios for that car or a B5 S4.

I think you can get a longer final drive which I gather comes from the diesel C5.
