I am going to buy some gear oil from the VW mech down the road as he buys it in bulk.

How much fluid will I need for a flush of my transmission and my rear diff?

    Thanks all.

My 02X transmission has a capacity of 3.5 quarts, and my rear diff took 1.9 (or was it 1.5?) quarts it should be the same unit that you have. Basicly, I filled it till it came out the fill plug. FYI... I did not use the same oil in the rear diff. Personal preference is to use the factory gear lube in the transmission. The rear diff in not very particular about formulation and got Redline GL5 rated 75W-90 lube, no need to use the factory stuff.

The dealer charged me $29 a quart for the factory stuff I used in the transmission ( G052911A2).

Is your mechanic factory lube in bulk ( big container) or buying a lot of 1 liter bottles to get a quantity discount or is it an aftermarket equivalent?

He is a VW/Audi only shop. He gets his oil and gear fluid in big barrels. All is OEM spec and on par for warranty on new cars as per dealer recommendations.
