    Single-Xenon information & Conversion

    Hey 'Zine!

I Recently acquired some Single Xenon HID headlights from a buddy who swapped his over to e-codes.

My car never came equipped with Xenon headlights or auto-leveling so I'm trying to find a way to convert.

I had a set of S4 bi-xenon's I cannibalized and was in the process of doing an STi-R lense conversion but the shop I sent my projector buckets too went out of business and I never got my buckets back.. I was hoping to use the ballasts out of the S4 headlights on these but found that they are very different. Seeing as I have never had single-xenon's I was unaware of the difference until I got home and realized...they're not the same at all.

I'm thinking I would be able to get Ballasts used from eBay or a part out, but as for the leveling motors, has anybody made a delete kit? or a way to make them manual? the high and low-beam bounce front to back in the housing without anything to secure them on that corner.

Hoping someone on here has come across similar issues and has a solution

For any interested parties I'd be happy to do a 3 way comparison between the Halogen, Single-Xenon and S4 Bi-Xenon seeing as I have all 3 now.

    Ballast Comparison Information:
    http://www.lltek.com/PRS_bin/PRS_69_...sts_claire.htm

    S4 have the 4pin, A4 have the 12 pin.

I could always use these and do a TRS Retrofit as seen here: http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...n-OEM-for-less

However I'd still need a means to delete the auto-levelers

If I cant find a reasonable option to use them on my car they're going to get sold.

Not sure exactly how I'd align them without the auto leveling motors. Unlike the S4, you can still use the manual adjustments and not need the auto-levelers. It would appear in order to use the auto function or align them at all I'd have to add all sorts of additional things that I dont have and frankly it's not a priority right now.. I have an engine to finish building.

S4's are kinda worthless right now considering they have no projector lol.

I'd rather do the Retrofit lab kit on those and keep the upgraded 3" projectors. I have no time into these singles as I just picked them up. shouldn't be too hard to offload.

on that note, what's a fair price for these? the numbers seem to be all over the place..

you can use the ballasts with a 4-pin to 12-pin adapter. The Depo ecodes come with them even, I have a few unused pair around if you want a set.

for the auto-level motors, you simply replace them with the fixed position plastic standoff used in the halogen lights. shouldn't be hard to find.

If your car never came with Xenon headlights, then you're also missing the auto level sensors with the motors and fuse to make it all work. Simple solution will be to get the Depo ecodes, the TRS Retrofit kit, use VCDS to code for use of Xenons instead of halogens (35W instead of 55W), and be done with it.

The OEM Xenon and Bi-Xenon use the same ballast (5GL) which can be found new at a good price on eBay. They also work with the Depo headlights and the D1S bulbs. Then you can do the retrofit kit later and sell off the rest.

You would leave the setting to be "halogen" so as to not trip the bulb out sensor. Also be prepared to buy bulbs quicker as Xenon bulbs are designed to normally operate at 35W and your kit will be over driving it to 55W. Might also want to aim them a bit lower than normal too so as to not piss off all oncoming traffic (or the cops).

I think the ones I have go the other way (4-pin to 12-pin), but I probably have some spare 4-pin connectors as well that you could either de-pin or splice in.

I'd be happy to take a set off your hands :D I'll check what direction I'd need to go.

    pretty sure I'd need a male 4-pin to a female 12-pin but I'll verify.

I have a set of 4-pin male to 12-pin female adapters, as well as a pair of female 4-pin plugs w/1" leads

The 5G ballast was only used on 2002 A4s with the Xenon headlights. They also used D2S bulbs. For 2003-2005, both the Xenon and Bi-Xenon headlights used the 5GL and D1S bulbs.
