Carfax says "Vehicle Serviced" too frequently

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi Everyone,

I am planning on buying a 2013 A5 and reviewing the carfax. I found too many records (6 to be exact) saying "Vehicle Serviced" at the same Audi Dealer every time.
This is my first experience buying a used Audi and makes me think why was this vehicle serviced so frequently besides the regular oil changes. The
car has 1 Yr/11000 miles factory warranty left on it. Is having too many vehicle serviced records good or bad?

    ~Nick

I doubt it matters. Could be the previous owner took it in for everything, which I would prefer to an owner that is "just okay" with things not working. Check if you can see the work preformed? Should be easy since they're all at the same dealer.

You may be able the contact the dealer with the VIN to ask what was done. Most likely they'll say no because they don't want to give out to personal information, but you may be able to persuade them not to provide copies but just tell you over the phone what was done.

Is this car a CPO? If so you'd have an additional 2 years.

Sometimes the dealers aren't specific on the Carfax. For example, someone could be complaining about a creaky trim panel. So they fix it, but just report "vehicle serviced". Now that can also be something more significant as well.

Personally, I would only buy the German cars used if they are CPO from an actual dealer. These cars are amazing machines, but let's be honest a good chunk of the people driving these things don't have the slightest clue how to properly care for them. Previous owner fuck ups could haunt you later on.

If the sales guy or gal really wants to sell it to you, they should be able to get you a copy of the service documents in a sanitized format. It is not difficult to hold a blank piece of paper over the document and block out the previous owner's information while making a copy of it, whether it is an original document from file or a print out from their system.

    Thanks for all your inputs!

I have scheduled a call with Service Director at the dealership to talk more in detail about the services performed on the car.

The car is Not CPO but I plan on buying the extended warranty as I get closer to 50k if car is a keeper :)

if you're not buying and well if you are buying from an audi dealer you should pay the ~$300 for a full CPO inspection done on it at an audi dealer. Keep in mind though that will not make the car a CPO and give you the cpo warranty. I will say if it is at an audi dealer maybe take it to another audi dealer for the inspection unless the current one will do the CPO addon to it . If they will do the cpo expect it to raise the price of the car a few thousand. When I purchased my 2013 S5 I made the dealer I bought it from take it to an audi dealer to have a pre purchase inspection. They offered me two different inspections. a basic visual inspection ~150usd and an inspection audi mandates to Certify a pre owned.. This was ~330usd but it will not make the car a CPO. at any rate with me they stated the battery needed to be changed. When I bought the car I told the dealer to replace the battery they cut me a check for 350usd for the battery and I opted to not change it since I knew the car had been sitting for 3months in a garage and thats why it failed the test and My Pre-inspection was essentially free.

Sweet! Thats a good suggestion. I will reach out to a different Audi dealer and see if I can get it inspected. Thanks!

So here is the full response from the dealer's service department on each of the "Vehicle Serviced" comment on Carfax:

    1. Vehicle Serviced - 146 miles - No further details available in dealer's service record (Its reported on carfax but dealer has no details on this which is very strange)
    2. Vehicle Serviced - 5 days later - No further details available in dealer's service record (Its reported on carfax but dealer has no details on this which is very strange)
    3. Vehicle Serviced - 24000 miles - bulb replaced
    4. Vehicle Serviced - 37900 miles - Audi recall for crankcase pressure regulatory valve
    5. Vehicle Serviced - 38500 miles - Antenna reinstalled

All maintenance performed at Audi dealer who is selling the vehicle including regular oil changes.

purchased a 13 a5 last fall and car had a little more than a year factory warranty remaining. Its been a solid car so far and I've completed all the maintenance on my own, solid car and no issues. I think its time to void the warranty and go with an apr stage 1 or 2. Car only has 33k miles on it, its been a fun car and nice pick up.

I personally like to see these 2.0t engines serviced every 6 months or 5k miles. So if it is 3 years old I would hope to see at least 6 service records, your other post says 38000 miles so then I would say even 7 records is the norm.

Its better to see some service history versus none at all.

Side note: Carfax won't prove everything on higher mileage cars either. This forum has a lot of DIY folks.
For example I for sure will not pay $700 for the 55k mile service, I will be buying the kit from ECS Tuning

The car doesn't sound too bad, but I would always go with a PPI for peace of mind. What's the price you're getting for you this car?
