The vehicle came from Wisconsin and has about 48k miles. Having lived in CT and owning a Jeep, I know all about the cancer that rust is. Treating it early is key. I was just surprised to see it on an Audi that was 3 years old.
We have a 12 years warranty against perforation, not corrosion. These will never go to that point, at least not within 12 years.
Thanks to for clarifying that the warranty is for perforation and not so much surface rust or corrosion, however I disagree that left unchecked, this would perforate inside the 12 year warranty. Anyway, I aim to avoid the IF there. That's why I was curious if this was common enough and really whether the dealer would do something now rather than something potentially more costly 9 years from now. On my jeep, where fighting frame rote etc was a constant battle, i was a big fan of Easton's internal frame coat and rust inhibitor and Fluid Film, along with standard wire wheeling and POR 15.
Which dealership in CT are you going to? They vary considerably... PM me if you don't want to air the name publicly.
It's Hoffman. They've been good to deal so no complaints, and solved a few minor issues except for the rattle. I showed some of the videos I had taken to the service manager and recognized that something was going on but it is intermittent. I really didn't want to pile on the complaints with this rust issue, and be that buyer of a used car complaining that it wasn't spotless 'new.'
I appreciate the replies! Thanks.
Now off mobile so here are some of the worst pics:
