    Depends on your ambient pressure. 2.8bar will be different based on your location in terms of actual boost. You can log height correction and do the math to get actual.

    I said I bet they probably didn’t run 28 psi to get there. They didn’t. It was a very simple statement. Very simple.

    If you are tuning these cars to run lower than 28 psi now, good. Finally. You gotta stop encouraging these guys to just throw boost at these engines. Their results don’t really look favorably towards your abilities when OTS tunes are way more consistent.

    If one of these guys windows their block, that’s on you, not them.

    The target peak boost pressure while tuning has always been 2.8-2.85bar absolute, this has resulted in a 12.73 1/4 car on 93 only, full weight Avant, OEM wheels and exhaust minus HFC.

    Not sure how that speaks poorly on my abilities

    Once again total speculation throughout the whole reply spouted like its a fact..... you cant prove anything in this post or even back it up at all with SOME data so why say anything at all?

    Hi all,

    Am new here and new to the tuning scene-my question may reflect that.

    Hoping this is the right place to ask this question. Thanks in advance for any and all insight.

    Currently in the market for a K04 and one of the options I’m looking at is the CTS TR 1070. It’s advertised as 350bhp/340btq, but by the time the other parts I have are mated to the car, I’ll be looking at another 30-40 bhp. On top of that, I’m looking at IE’s 100 Octane tune. So with the extra parts and water/meth, just wondering if any potential issues going over the advertised power numbers by that much?

    I am a IE fan but if you have an 8.5 i would go with apr if you have access to e85. Also that 350/340 is with the addons you are not going to add another 50 hp with an ic, exhaust... you will not make the advertised power without the typical addons

    Edit: click the dyno thread i linked earlier you will see no-one was making anywhere near the numbers that are advertised.

    lol But those trash tunes are on sale according to IE's recent post. So tempting if you have a K04 and want to be slower than everyone else.

    APR is certainly an option...So can I deduce the CTS K04 should be able to handle the additional power?

    No E85 for me, my A4 is a 6MT.

    Question about overboosting and throttle cuts...
    Does anyone know if the throttle cut is triggered at a specific boost level?

    My understanding was that the throttle cut boost value was a hard limit set by the ECU and could not be altered. So I’m curious how the custom tunes are setting higher boost levels - are they tricking the ECU?

    In looking at my logs, it seems that any boost level for me over around 23psi results in a throttle cut. I don’t want high boost values (I’m actually trying to turn it down)- just curious how they are achieved on the custom side?

    there are two accessible modules in HPT from factory that have throttle based intervention on Overboost one is set at .20bar (3psi) over and the other is set to .45-.40bar (6-7psi) over request from factory

    Yes they are based on actual vs requested boost

    One is for load/boost intervention and the other is for throttle intervention

    The HPT tuning tool is fascinating. It’s definitely on my list of wants. I’d love to take a deeper dive into the tuning world but I’m just not ready for that learning commitment (yet)- trying to keep it shallow knowledge for now. I’ve already learned “too” much about this car. Lol.

    Stumbled across a APR k04 vs IE K04 tune discussion for the mk5/6 GTI’s on Facebook


    There was several guys in that discussion claiming the latest apr file v3.2 hits a 28 psi spike in 4th gear. Having apr I tried this myself and saw the same boost I would had I did a log in 3rd.


    But in the comments section look who chimes in

    It’s Perry’s personal tuner aka the owner of IE



    Lol did I really fall for that? Can the gti software be that different than their b8 software? Is it an auto vs manual thing?

    Or did these guys make a discovery like I did that you can up the wastegate preload and make a little more boost without over boosting ? But 28psi? There were a few guys making that claim.

    I don’t even see 15* on 93 lol I see closer to 13.5*
