    I am looking into getting K04 done as well when there is a sales event.
    What's the typical install/labor hour at a capable shop?

    B8 Ko4 owners follow up thread

    Hey guys ,
    So I picked up the car and first impression was
    -it feels really similar to stage 2 at low rpm.
    -above 4k rpm it feels like the car is about to take off and has no limit . Unfortunately I was stuck in traffic when I picked it up, bumper to bumper so didn't have a chance to aggressively test drive it. But here is what I can say from the bit I felt:

    First and foremost, one advice for the future k04 owner:
    If you don't like driving above 90mph don't bother getting the k04 kit for the cost (4K to 4.5K parts and labor) but stick with stage 2 imo. The reason I'm saying this is that It seems like the real power of that beast comes out in the 80's . And it pulls pulls and pulls the shiet out of u... Next thing you know your at 110 and it's just the beginning


    Cons: Speeding ticket coming through. (I stepped on the gas few times yesterday and next thing I knew I was at 110mph "holy shiet!"!) knowing myself there is a great chance I'll get few speeding tickets this year...

    Pros:
    -the drive is super smooth
    -the car feels more powerful above 4K rpm, but don't expect the same sensation as an S4 or M3 to be honest
    -car engine noise is deeper doesn't sound like a weak 2.0 engine , love being in the cabine and driving the car more than ever.
    -seems like the car has no limit speed wise, well for me considering I never drive above 100.
    Now it's aching me to flirt with the 130-140 range (bad bad bad...)

    I will take the car out tonight and rreally give it a hard test drive with a video possibly.

    Thanks for the update VNA4. I'm sure you had plenty of future K04 owners worried with the troubles you went through; glad it got sorted out and gave others perspective of how to avoid the same issues. My install date is 29 days and counting. Thanks again for the insight, I will be prepared!

    Don't worry too much, I don't think all the K04 owners had the same bad luck as I did.
    Even with my luck it wasn't so bad. Some parts are bound to give in when more power are applied to the engine I guess...

    Glad to hear you got everything sorted out. Hopefully they didn't fleece you for too much to get it back up and running.

    Also I've been running mine for almost a year now and haven't been pulled over yet and I drive like an animal. Just be smart about it and you'll be fine. And bring it to the track every once in a while, that helps you get it out of your system a bit.

    I actually would love to take it to the track but not 1/4 miles track more like driving trough a whole cartrack and learn how to professionally drive; To learn what to do, how to react under certain speed/circumstances etc... I don't know if they have such place in NorCal

    Question: Does your engine heat up like crazy ever since you upgrade to k04?
    I drove for 10-15min this morning and pop up the hood and it was burning hot, is that normal?

    No, in fact it's considerably cooler than stock. I mean it's a turbo and they get hot, but the K03 setup I was running was much hotter. Lots of things can contribute to that, including your turbo operating in the higher end of its efficiency range (possible result of a restrictive intercooler), lack of airflow into your engine bay (why I opened up my fog grilles), A/F ratios being changed (will affect EGTs), driving habits, etc.

    Might have to upgrade the FMIC if the heat can cause damage? I was thinking on upgrading the FMIC in few months since I don't track yet .
    What does " A/F ratios being changed (will affect EGTs) " mean?

    You should check out the treadstone intercoolers there are a bunch of topics about it in the b8 section my tr8 was delivered Monday. Between the piping and intercooler it was right around $360 shipped and my gfb dv+ was delivered today along with my afe air filter stage 2 here I come and k04 once turbo goes

    Air Fuel ratios will affect exhaust gas temps.

    Running rich - too much fuel which runs cooler vs. running lean - too much air which runs hotter.

    I don't have a KO4 but just feeling how much the FMIC affected my stg 2, I would think it would be the next logical step.

    Seems like the car lacks a bit of kick in low rpm compared to stage2 since going k04. Any ways to improve boost or give it more kick?

    Have you upgraded your intake and intercooler? Better flow will help, but K04s hit torque a little later than the stock turbos.

    You can do the whole set up with a tr8 or tr8c from treadstone for about $285-300, or you might get a miracle like bilbroo on fleabay. I highly recommend the intercooler even at stock power levels. Message me back on that HFC.

    I just need to verify that the kit I have, an APR from an A5 2.0t, will fit our 2.0t, which, should be the exact same....

    I haven't installed one, but the kits should be identical even on the flex fuel engines.

    A little off topic,

    Had the chance to drive a brand new A3 for a day, wierd thing is I miss the feeling of a stock ride. Smooth, no worring about bumps or rough patches of road, quiet and comfy. Kinda made me wish I left the car bone stock. Best part, not worrying about going into NYC or any area that has potholes etc. anywho, thats all.

    How low are you? What suspension do you have?
    I felt the same way when driving a loan vehicle (Allroad) and I immediately raised my car height. It's not even worth it, I have two kids and I have to watch for pot holes and go up drive ways sideways. Too ricy, not classy.

    Looks Sexy!

    Im on H&R OE with Bilstein sports. Feels planted, not too rough but does lose composure in slow rougher terrain (think cobblestones ). It could also be because the loaner was a brand new A3 and enjoying stock in a new car is always awesome. Heres a pic of mine.

    You are on 20s too...major contributor to a firmer ride... the fast new m3 m4 guys stick to wide light weight 18s with major sidewall....and they have 500hp easily !

    This is the very reason I'm most likely going to keep my sport suspension. I would love to go lower but don't see it being a wise decision, especially with the amount of driving I do around here and into the the city.

    If my car was had sport suspension stock or was an S4 I would probably have left it stock except for Alu-Kruez. Ride comfort over bumps and rough roads did not change when I rode in that setup, with the addition of EC sway bars etc. the bumps and road imperfections were more pronounced.
