    Should I buy this?

Hello everyone, I'm new to Audis and have been tinkering with the idea of buying a B5 S4. I found this 2001 S4 that has been swapped from Tip to an 01E but has a couple little things that still need to be done. There's some cosmetic stuff that doesn't bother me too much, I'm rather focused on making sure the car will be mechanically sound. The ad lists that the clutch vent valve needs to be wired and the ecu needs to be coded for manual. If I wired the clutch vent valve and had a shop recode the ecu for manual with a vcds, would the swap be finished or are there other things that may require me to put in money? Also, is the list of new parts installed on the car missing anything that should have been replaced due to wear and tear and/or the added stress from stage 3? Thank you, I appreciate any help.

Its a B5S4.... it will ALWAYS require additional money. However, yes, expect to put more money in it regardless, so if this is the top of your budget, walk away now. There is a reason a Nogaro Stage 3 S4 is priced under 6,000, and its hardly ever because it needs the headliner put in and a few seconds with vagcom.

As for if you should buy it... No one but YOU can answer that question. It is pretty cheap, so that has me a bit skeptical. [The "Im about to buy a house so thats why its cheap" story is constantly used on Craigslist, so I put less value on that then I do with "salvaged because of a nick in the fender" claims ] Not to say its not true, but EVERYONE uses that line.

Also someone with a Nogaro S4 with 034 Stage 3, and B6 Recaro seats, and 6-Speed Swap who doesnt own or at the very least have access to Vagcom??? I would approach with caution only because some things dont really seem to make sense to me, or add up. None of those parts are cheap, so what they guy ran out of money when it came to the $14 ebay vagcom cable?

However, if it is what it claims to be, I think its well worth the money. You could easily make all that back just by parting it out.

I saw the car you are talking about. Its a nogaro blue with B6 interior. If I remember correctly he has only been stage 3 for 1k miles or something and was going to let it go cheap. ... badass deal if you ask me.

I paid 8250 recently for a K04'd car and it had tons of minor issues but overall clean. If you are mechanically inclined, GO FOR IT. If you are not do not buy the B5 S4.

Yeah I can do my work, the S4 will probably be a little tougher to work on then most cars but I think I can handle it. The only other thing is, is that the lien is with an online lender and I'm not sure how to go about that.

^ yeah but what happens if the guy takes the money and runs leaving you with a car with no title? Not saying that will happen here, Das4 sounds like a stand up guy.

As for the car I'd say go for it, I followed its build on here and by the looks of it no corners were cut and everything is legit. For that price he's basically giving it away. If I didn't start a build, I'd consider picking it up as a second car for sure

You could meet with him and test the car. Then drive and get something notarized like a proof of purchase type of deal. Also use your cell phone to document the whole transaction. Take the car without the title and have him mail you the title.

    Just throwing out ideas.

    This car looks clean....

Just think of what you'd realistically need to fix it, multiply by two, punch yourself in the nuts, and start meditating.

These cars get frustrating, and expensive. But so worth when running strong.
