Exclamation Humming noise from engine room A4 B8 2.0 TFSI ?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I recently noticed a dark humming noise (drrrrrrrr sound) from my Audi A4 B8 when driving above 30 mph, the noise gets more noticeable when driving 40 mph+.
The noise surpasses the engine sound itself if I hit the pedal in neutral, when driving 30mph+.

Could it be the timing belt ?
If its relevant Audi fixed the car due to oil consumption problems 1 year ago, they changed pistons and rod(s).

The car has 62.000 miles on the clock.

These cars have timing chains instead of belts. It could be your wheel bearing as well.

This....when driving at 40+ swerve across the lane, then back a couple of times (make sure no traffic is present). If the sound comes and goes, it is a bearing.

Is yours coming from the passenger side? I just recently started hearing the same sound. Like a whistle for me

I cant tell whether or not the noise is coming from the passenger side, it seems somewhere within the engine..

I just tried to swerve across lanes but the noise did not come and go, still there.

See videos I just took, its not my exhaust even though it might sound like it.

Well that's pretty obviously going with speed, not revs, so it wouldn't be anything engine-related.
It also persisted through depressing the clutch and shifting gears so I highly doubt it's transmission-related.
My money's on something in your suspension or driveline. If it's coming from your engine bay then the problem is most likely somewhere from your front axles to your wheels.
Unfortunately that's not my area of expertise so that's as helpful as I'll probably be able to be. Personally I'd start with wheel bearings and CV joints, the former of which is a common issue with these cars.

Could it be an alignment? I know I'm in need of one. I didn't think until you said suspension issue but I only hear the whistle sound at low speeds

FYI, turns out to be wheel bearings :)
Got it replaced under warranty today.

They did however say that one of the brake rotor was worn, and told me it would make a noise when driving.
1000$ for both, think Ill find a local dealer.

    Thanks all!

In the US, a set of OEM front rotors and pads for both sides can be obtained for under $300 total. $1000 is VERY high, even if you don't do the installation yourself.

Naw bruh go aftermarket with stop tech. Just got my front and back rotors and pads for 400 shipped. It's all labor that they charge you for. I did my back one time and charged me 700 for rotors and brakes
