Installing Recaro front seats/air bad delete

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I just purchased a set of recaros for the front of my rs5, but have been reading all night bits and pieces of how to properly disable the air bag lights and sensors. Can someone point me to a DIY or a step by step process of how to get the lights on the passenger and driver side to go off.

I posted this thread and got little response. So I'm going to post about how my install went and some of the problems one would run into. Also the lack of information about our cars is ridiculous! I know they are fairly new, but I guess everyone that owns one doesn't mod it at all.

First I ordered a set of planted brackets and recaro sliders without tabs. The seats I purchased had sliders but they had tabs and those will not work with our cars. Review on the parts

Planted brackets seem to have been made very well and looked really nice. Recaros sliders were a simple replacement and were what I was expecting. The planted passenger bracket attached to the seat no problem other then when I tried to slide the seat forward a bracket that is attached to the seat ran into the planted bracket and I had to put to washers in between the seat and the bracket to make room for it to slide freely forward and backwards. Before attached the two I places the planted brackets in the car and realized the stock bolts were not going to work all. The bolts take a special tool that you insert in the top of the bolt, but the bracket is completely covering the bolt. So I had to switch it to a normal hex head bolt. Once I figured these to problems out the passenger seat went in pretty easy. The driver seat had the same exact problem, along with the tabs that hold a seat belt harness were way to narrow for my seat. I had to bend the left tab out so the plastics off the seat wouldn't get messed up. Another small problem that I didn't read anywhere was the bolt that holds the original seat belt guide would not work. A normal bold with a lock washer was required to get the guild attached to the bracket.

I also went and purchase 4.7 ohm resistors to try and turn off the airbag lights. I tried the resistor on the yellow plug and with no success. My cars harness had very little slack and I could even pull it out of the carpet to really try and put the resistor in the plug. All the tutorials I found were on older rs4 cars and it made me think maybe those cars had different plugs and different wiring. So I'm not even sure if I was jumping the right plugs. Also there are zero companies that I found that sell a plug for the passenger side occupancy sensor. I hope someone can give some more infor on what to do about both these problems. If you want to post just put a resistor in there please don't post your info at all.

Overall I really like the seats, but wish they were a little more direct bolt in. I know you only attach the bracket but not exactly a bolt in my eyes. They feel much smaller compared to the stock seats. Which is fine for me. I do feel like they give you a lot more back support, long trips in the original seats would get me back pains and weren't very comfortable. For the price of these seats one might not want to do the mod, but I can say there isn't nothing like looking in your car seeing a seat of recaros!

    Now to the pictures

I know of resistors to bypass the airbag light.. Just figured I might be able to disable it with VCDS.

I've got the factory bucket seats in my RS5 (they were an option in Australia).

I think they use a plug-in resistor on the harness connector under the seat as standard, so using the same approach for your seats is probably the way to go (I don't think there is any changes to be made via VCDS in relation to the seat-mounted side airbags).

I've found the resistor thing to bypass the side air bag. But what about the occupancy sensor? I did find a place that sells the plug in resistor for the air bag light, but they only sell it for a4 and a3's. I emailed and asked if it would work for the rs5 but didn't get anything back from them.

seats look awesome! Another option was to drop in some OEM Euro RS5 bucket seats and those would probably be plug and play.

Damn those are nice! Do you have tint on the rear window? If so, you need to remove it now so everyone who is behind you can see how badass those are!!!!

Looking awesome! Nice find on the carbon optic. I've got the same seats in my A3 (standard, not cross). did you transfer the load pad from your stock passenger seat as well? We are Recaro's main North American distributor and we have a Recaro guru on staff, so please give a call if you have any questions.

No I didn't switch that over, cause I know there has to be better way to do it. I found airbag360 that sells plugs that should enable the light. But they only sell for a3 and a4 cars. Never got an email back from them.
