Question Anyone have gear shift stiffness??

Hey guys i just bought a 2013 A5 Sline, Owned it for about two weeks and recently seemed to notice that shifting into first and second really stiff. Is this normal or should i be heading back to the dealer. Car is CPO and was bought from the stealership:)

Really appreciate any info, I used to own a honda that shifted smoother!

Sounds normal to me. Time to start modding.

Honda manuals are so fantastic, you've been ruined for life. It will never be as good as a Honda.

How many miles on the car? Could be several things. I'd check out the linkages and master / slave cylinders first off.

I think it's pretty normal. I've had issues going from 1st to second occasionally. I've gotten used to banging it into second but may try out a jhm shifter in the near future

I actually love the stiffness of the Audi shifter. I've only owned Audis and Hondas with manuals and both had a nice stiff feel to it.

I love both Honda & Audi shifter. I dun like my S5 shifter in the beginning and find it is too tall and a bit loose when compare to my TSX. But after 2 weeks, I already get used to it and like it a lot. It sure give different feel than honda shifter but both are nice and crisp. On the other hand I still hate how BMW shifter perform even owning bmw for over 16 years! And I am not compare by memory of my old cars, I literally still own a 08 335i & 04 TSX so I compare them almost everyday.

Honda transmissions usually have to deal with low torque, so the gears have less mass along with lighter clutches all add up to make an easier shifting trans. The trans in my A5 shifts great and is not difficult to get into the low gears. I did have to get used to the long throw on the clutch which if no pressed down enough can cause balky shifting and is very bad for Syncro life.
