Any reason to get an APR IC over a CTS? Stage 1 currently

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I just bought my B8 and did the APR Stage 1 with an aFe drop in and the local shop has a CTS IC for $699. Looks like the APR runs $899 and the normal price on the CTS is $849. APR claims 17hp gain with a dyno but can't see it being any different than a CTS yet CTS doesn't claim the gains. I know on another post others said install myself to save the money but thinking of having the shop install with an RS6 grill since I got them to run a package and it isn't that much. Primary question here is get the CTS IC or spend more for another brand?

I had an answer all prepared then realized one very important aspect...confirm this with the shop, BUT...the CTS IC comes with their hose kit/noise pipe replacement piece: whereas the APR IC does not. That alone is worth $199. Both will suit your current needs more than sufficiently and should you upgrade to a K04 or EFR, you'll still have cooling coverage.

op lots of good questions you're having lately but these are also very common and well posted on here already. some answers are even common sense; no offense.
looks like you've already done research on kit pricing. try searching the forum for some of your other questions. they've all been answered.

Shimmy, not sure what I am missing as common sense. There is a price difference between the 2 but also APR has a larger volume and claims of adding HP whereas I can't seem to find much on the CTS. If there were true gains of one over another the cost would be worth the APR, if not then no. I have used the search function on a number of occasions but cannot seem to find what I am looking for. From what the shop is telling me there is no difference but again they are trying to sell me a CTS they are currently stuck with.

None of them actually add horsepower, but regain lost HP that results from heat soak.

If you're dead set on one of the two you mentioned, I would confirm zcspec's point prior to purchasing. If the hoses are included with the CTS kit, I would suggest that one.

If you're willing to do some work, and save some cash in the long run, I would suggest blbroo's treadstone IC. Check out his rebroo thread to get an idea of what's involved, because there's some of your own work involved to get everything setup, but nothing that looks difficult.

unless you push this car to its limits or use it as a track car, you wont notice the difference in either kit. If you're set on an IC and want to save some $$ look up the treadstone threads on here. There's a few guys running those intercoolers with great success. If money isn't an issue i'd go with the APR kit myself. :-) BUT, for $300-$400 the TR setups seem to be hold their own and are a good option to read up on. They have the same IC core structure at the CTS and APR kits.

What Shimmy said, a FMIC upgrade this size is a total waste of money on a stock turbo car even if you're stage bazillion.
