I turn 19 in April, so I'm getting myself a little present to celebrate.

I currently own a B8 A4 and grew up with my mothers/fathers beautiful 3.0 B6 A4, so I am not new to the audi scene.
I've narrowed down my car choices to either an 2013+ 6 speed S5 or a EVO 8/9 (yes, completely different field- but the evo has been one car at the top of my list since freshman year in highschool).

I was looking at B8.5 S4's, but personally I think the front headlights on the facelift's are gross af. they look like they're made to be rental cars to me.

    my question(s):

What are some things you REGRET about your S5 purchase?
anything you can't stand about it? anything that annoys you on a daily basis maybe?

as well, any other tips for my 6spd S5 search? is there anything specific with the manual models to look for?

Good luck finding a clean Evo 8/9. They do exist, but they're growing increasingly rare. The Evo 8 isn't really a great daily driver. I've had mine for about 9 years now, and I had my STI at the same time for just shy of 9 years. The Evo is fun and reliable, but it's just not a very comfortable car even compared to an STI. Both of them pale in comparison to an S5 when it comes to comfort.

The only regret I have about buying my S5 is that I didn't buy it sooner. Maintenance wise, the S5 is proving to be a lot cheaper than my STI and Evo, but the main reason the Evo is expensive is because it's putting down a lot of power. Shit breaks when you nearly double the horsepower...

    this.

ive been slowly coming to the sad conclusion that I should probably keep away from evo since I know myself and I know once I have the ability for more, I wont stop until I get more powa.

My main concern was mileage really.. I drive everyday about 20-30 minutes to get to my job downtown and I love to cruise, so that'll obviously add up.

Two totally different beasts and honestly it will come down to which do you want more. A speed demon who has a racier look, more mods available and options but gives more headaches on maintenance and the desire to put your heavy foot on the pedal everywhere you go or an all in one. I come from having a gt35r single turboed s2k and vortech supercharged 350z so I feel my background is still relevant.

The s5 is slow, at least for me and will never give me that crazy "high" you get when you get pushed back in your seat and just feel that immense power. However that power although addicting gets old and somewhat annoying to daily drive (at least for me). I find the S5 is like a jack of all trades, provides awd, some power, luxury, and just an overall complete package of a daily driver that I really enjoy. I still miss my turboed s2000 from time to time but I have a bike when I want to experience that same rush so I'm pretty happy with my S5.

My regret would be that I didn't get the push start/stop with advance key but its very minor. I'm perfectly fine without it. If you want to be young and dumb I'd get the EVO and cross that off the list. If you're not that kind of person then the comfort and luxury of the S5 will make you very happy.

Vote is for B8.5 S5: The car is absolutely stunning inside out. Things to look for:

    +6Speed Manual
    +Differential
+Navigation (more for having a complete interior)
+Carbon Fiber (If there are plenty in your area, don't settle until you find one with it)
    +ALWAYS pick your favorite color

I imagine the Evo will be very expensive to insure for a 19 yo (male?). I agree with kyo the 5s are a great do it all daily, and the styling definitely turns heads.

Thank you so far for everyone who has contributed their knowledge towards my topic..

@kyo - I've been seeing some S5's that have stated that they're pushing 400-500whp and that'd be a perfect amount for me as well. I've always wanted to go fast, but I spent most of my 'childish' driving years in my old 02' Grand Am and a little of the b8 A4 since I got it in highschool & really enjoyed it.

@Face - color choice is sooooo hard... my current b8 a4 is black and I love the stealthy look to it, but something about the white is killer... love your gray as well..

@sweep - that's what I was thinking as well. My parents have been kind enough to cover me on insurance up for a limited time, but here soon I'm going to have to add that payment up as well. Tbh, the whole turning head factor has already gone past me, so I don't care for attention..

    Thanks everyone!

Sounds like you were already leaning towards the S5 but wanted to make sure there were no major problems with them. And since you're coming from an Audi family it kinda makes sense. When I was looking for my car it took a while and I had to travel out of state to get it since manuals are harder to find. My recommendation is don't settle, get all the features/color you want otherwise you're gonna have a hard time fully enjoying it.

My only regret is that I should get an RS5 instead ;)
Other than that very please with my S5 (beside minors things)
Like other members mentioned make sure to get color and options you truly want.
    That's very important

Wouldn't say regret, but it would have been nice to have the adaptive cruise control. I had it on my previous car ('14 mazda 6 at half the price) and do miss it. But with audi's pricing structure it would add about 5K to the price (prestige vs. premium plus, and the purchase of the option).
Only regret: not having the black wood/alu trim. Was not available on the '14's but love the pinstripe look.
Power wise I love my stage 2. Torque for days while still comfortable driving in city/traffic.

Iowa gets plenty of snow right? Make sure you get a good set of summer AND a good set of winter tires, the car (and you) deserve it.

It depends on how an insurance company works. My insurance has always been cheap on my Evo, and I bought it for my wife when she was 21. We've never paid over $95 a month for full coverage.

If your 19 then practicality is of no concern. I would go for a vette. The S5 is more of a later in life car As its practical and has a back seat etc. if you really want to turn heads and go fast then corvette is the answer. If I wasn't married and older that's what would be back in my garage again.
