Rear brake job. RS5...do rotors need to be replaced too? 20k miles

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey guys,

I just got a warning light in my car that says I need new pads. I don't think it could be the fronts since I got them replaced at 12k miles. I'm now at 20k miles.

How much mileage are you getting out of the rears? Also, do just the rear pads need replacing or do the rotors also need to be replaced?

    Thanks,
    Chris

Not sure on mileage, but I helped a buddy do his. We just pad slapped & the rotors had plenty of meat on them.
Vagcom & about 1hr you can get them done all around (pads), very easy car to do.

Thanks. The rear rotors aren't cheap at all. I've never tracked the car so I would anticipate the rotors are still good.

Yeah they aren't, why my buddy didn't replace them. Figured do them on the next go around.

No one can really tell you as it depends on the thickness of the rotor.

Just got car checked...need to rears pads a rotors. The rotors are worn. Cost is looking to be $1500.

Is there a non-OEM option out there? Anything better for reasonably more money?

ECS only has fronts rotors, no rears available.

Check out rock auto site for parts usually solid pricing. I checked out rear rotors for a rs5 13 and I think they were $499

Should I go with a different pad or OEM?

I am looking for a non-oem way to do my rear brakes. however i have heard that it messes up your Parking Brake if you put an different rotor on the car. can someone confirm?

Seems unlikely it's just a rotor,

Like a different design rotor or same design but just different maker? The only way I believe the parking brake would be affected is if you don't have the same diameter, since all it does is press the pads firmly against the rotor when engaged.

FWIW it looks like FCP has OE rear rotors for 550 a piece. No aftermarket ones yet.

I'd go with the same pad material as the fronts.

ECS has a set for about 1K :( NOT CHEAP.
I even think my front brakes have the wrong pad because Carbon Ceramics.
