Clarification on Parts required for APR stage2

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi Guys

I promise I've searched and searched for this info, I've also talked to a couple of shops but if anything I am more confused than when I started. That's how I even know to ask these questions, because I'm not very auto savvy.

My car is a 201o A4 quattro, completely stock.

I was about to get the APR stage 1, but now I am leaning to the stage 2. The APR website says that the requirement is a "High Flow Exhaust Downpipe" and on their website say that they sell a "APR Exhaust Downpipe", none of the APR retailers around me (ontario) say that they can get the APR Exhaust Downpipe which is fine by me because it is ~$1600 CAD. From what I understand, the APR downpipe actually includes both the downpipe and the HFC.

Since I can't get the APR downpipe, do you think that I need both a HFC and a downpipe or can I get away with just the HFC?

Several of the shops near me sell CTS high flow cat's. Do you think that this will be enough to support a stage 2 tune if that's all I did?

I should mention that I do want to use a catalytic converter over a test pipe.

Thank you all for your help

All you need is the high flow cat.

This. You can make small improvements on the stage 2 with intake, IC, downpipe, exhaust but the essence of it is really the tune and getting rid of the restrictive stock cat

    This.

Some vendors make downpipes that have integrated catalysts together as one unit. Other vendors sell catalysts and downpipes separately to mix and match. The only 'required' part for stage two is the high flow cat.

Thanks guys so much. I feel much better know. I sent a mag to Frank, one of my friends recommend them as well.

I don't know if they carry CTS, but do they make good stuff?

You can contact Clay@CTS directly. I got my snow performance w/m kit from them for a very very good price. Great guy and good service.

Frank@Eurosporttuning is the best. Most of the aftermarket parts that were on my B7 came from them, including a 034 Motorsports HFC. Again, great service, and a very nice guy. I'll definitely knock on his door when the time comes to start modding my B8!

Second this Frank has helped me spend thousands and still keep a smile on my face. Great guy, speedy replies, service is top notch.

@Jaydog0910 if I was you I'd buy directly off CTS it's free shipping anywho. Then everything else with Frank if he can't source it for you.

Thanks for the help, I pulled the trigger!

So I ordered the CTS HFC, but am now worried that I made a mistake. I got it for $100 less than I could get the 034 for, but it seems like most people opt for the 034 HFC when going stage 2. I have read posts where people say it really doesn't matter what brand as long as you get an HFC, they are all similar performance, but if that is true why do so many more people use 034 compared to few using CTS. Like I said, CTS HFC was $100 bucks less, but did I make a stupid move??

Thanks Allroad! my blood pressure just went down a couple of points. As a rookie just getting into moding I seem to question everything I do more than I should.

Yea doesn't make much of a difference. Might want to look into R8 coils.
