What diverter valve will work best for me

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hello guys,
    Here's the breakdown.
    -3" catless DP.
    -Custom 2.2" exhaust
    -motoza tuning
    -Samco TIP
    -Gutted maf/snow screen
-punched out airbox w/ better filter
-k04-15 turbo (as of now... might end up w/ a t3/t4 or similar)

I know that Ill need a DV. I'd like something that I can somewhat hear, but I don't want people rubbernecking me. The car will be a fun street car, not a fully built race car. I don't want people hearing a massively loud DV and thinking they're going to square up w/ me every redlight. But I definitely don't mind hearing the DV LIGHTLY or when I'm under WOT.

    Ideas?

From what i understand the freer flowing airbox or a home made CAI will help with the sound more then the DV itself. I could be wrong.

I don't mind hearing it, I just don't want it to sound like your average BOV and have everybody trying to race me, haha.

No dv is going to sound like any bov from my knowledge unless you go with a splitter valve. With a cai or holes drilled in the bottom of the air box, it will make the dv a bit more audible but nothing that people on the sidewalk can hear.

It depends most on how much PSI your tune calls for. Most people on here with high boost applications seem to like the Forge 007 because you can change the spring force to help hold boost.

From what I understand a piston type diverter valve changes / makes the noise more audible. Running a cone filter really lets you hear it.

I have a 034 DV and I love it. Holds boost perfect, it has a heavy spring in it, and sounds great too.

I'm going to be installing an AWE DV soon. Hopefully it will sound a bit better then the 710 in it now

I have a Forge 007PA in my car. I have put Forge DVs in all of my last turbo cars.

Keep your stock DV. It'l hold 35psi just fine. Can even use it as a bov if you have a mafless tune.

Any 25mm dv will sound the similar. Its mostly the boost psi and intake that makes them sound louder.

Some bov on the other hand have "distinct" sound.

Good deal folks, thank you for the input.

Differences in performance/sound between 007 and 008 forge?

I hadn't considered the 034 DV.. I'll look at that now.

From what I've read the 008 is really just a more compact package which isn't really necessary for our setup. I think Forge claims that it responds a bit quicker, but a review of someone going from the 007 to the 008 said he couldn't notice the difference at all.

Although I like the sound of a reversed piston style dv, I'm still running a 710N. But if you want sound I'd probably go for the 034 one since it's reasonably priced and will give you a bit of sound since it's a piston type. Unless of course you can find a used alternate brand for cheaper.

I'm not a fan of kayser 710n's. Honestly I think they are shit. Mine lasted a day or so. Granted I have 30-40 psi on a lot larger turbo, stock bosch dv's last a llllllllot longer and i'd think with a k04 they'd be just fine.
I would also say don't buy knockoff 007's. I bought real guts to put in the knock off, but the ID of the knock off is too small. I can only run one out of the two orings otherwise it just seizes.

Find a used 007 and call it a day.

I think I might be leaning towards an 034 Motorsports DV right now but am still open to ideas. Thank you for all of the input guys.

OP, your home brew CAI with open air filter will accentuate the on throttle noise your craving to hear in conjunction with the DV. With that being said, Forge 007P if you can source one for a good price, if not the 710N works for your K04 without issues.

My GIAC K04'd B5 (mods below), has run with the 710N DV @ 20-22 PSI with no issues for 2-3yrs before I upgraded to the Forge 007P.

Is the only purpose sound? If yes, youd probably be disappointed with the 034/007 type. The 007 seems very similar to the 034 and it sounded exactly like the stock DV.

You might like the splitter type valve more. But i've read a couple issues with them. Probably just needs a stiffer spring to keep shut at idle. Or get a mafless tune and run any type of valve.

+1 on cone filter having a bigger effect on sound.
