Price doesnt seem low, It would take 9,400$ to total my s4 as it sits. Sucks but its how it goes. I think the motor issues these cars can have , has killed its value over the years. Sucks and sorry you lost the car but shit happens for a reason.

Damn! That is crappy news, sorry to hear it. Hope you can find a way to get it back on the road.

Sorry to see your S4 damaged, Vinny/

I guess my advise is coming rather late, as you’ve already put in a claim, and the car’s been totalled.

The damage seems pretty minimal - yeah, I know it looks bad, but remove the hood, fender, bumper, headlamp and core support, and you have an S4 that looks like it’s being prepared for a timing job.

Besides the bumper, the required parts are shared with the A4. I would have fixed it privately, and kept the car, and kept a clean title.

Oh well. If you buy it back, what are your plans? Please don’t part her out - there aren’t many of these great cars left, and yours was a pretty clean example too. I saw a mention of you selling the motor and trans. Are you planning a different engine?

All the best, whichever route you take.

Thanks for the kind words nolly.
To be honest, I'm still on the fence as to what to do. If I part it out, it's only going to be the engine and tranny and other small odds and ends. Me and a friend have been talking about doing an engine swap for a while. I have several ideas floating around. I haven't mentioned much about it here because i just didn't want any backlash if I decide on a non VAG engine. My ideas so far have been :
    Audi 5 cyl
    Audi 2.7 v6
Toyota 2jz. <--- most likely candidate with a b8 manual tranny and whatnot. (Yes I know custom sheet metal fab will be needed. I'm a union sheet metal worker so that's 0 issue)

I want forced induction, and don't want to drop an incredible amount Into it. I have already sourced some parts to fix the damage. I sent my insurance adjuster a TON of reciepts from the work I've done to her to try and recoup some of the cost. No way in hell I'll recover 10k extra, but anything will help. As soon as I hear anything I'll post more

Of those engine options, I wold go with the Toyota 2JZ. It’s pretty stout, and will make a ton of power on stock internals, moe than you would with the Audi options, and cheaper too.

    Do it!

After a bunch of back-and-forth with my insurance company, I only got them to raise their valuation by about $500. Either way, I agreed to by the car back. I will either fix it and sell it or the engine and transmission or are coming out and it is getting gutted and turn into a full track car. Stay tuned for more to come.

    Track car it is.

I spent about an hour or two today getting her back close to what she once was. Im going to get the hood close and then wrap it with vynal. Im thinking Nargo grey. Maybe carbon accents and maybe aome vents. Gonna need some new parts. No way around that. But I think I'm going to try and plastic weld the radiator. It's worth a chance.

We're on the whiteboard drawing up some ideas.
It's narrowed down to either a VR6 turbo swap or a 2JZ swap. Both awesome platforms and worthy of a swap. Im going to adapt a B8 manual Transmission to push the engine roughly 5" backwards. I'm going to clearance the false firewall and weld in new sheet metal as needed. I already have 2 runs of 0/2 gauge of wire from the from to the rear so that's already done. Once I get the placement of the transmission, I will be able to build around that.
    Stay tuned

Well Vinny, good choice. It so happens that I'm in the middle of developing some products that will let this thing crack 400 HP.

Can't say what they are publicly at the moment, but I'll text you the details ;)

Wow, just read through this entire thing for the first time. What an emotional rollercoaster, I can't believe the work you put in only to be totaled by a deer! New fear unlocked. Incredible build and awesome documentation of the whole thing, I thoroughly enjoyed reading through and seeing the love and care that you put into your build. Hopefully she rides another day with the 2JZ your skills seem more than capable of making that happen
