AN/NPT Fittings question. Running aftermarket fuel rails

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So I have a set of IE fuel rails I want to run and Im a noob with AN/NPT fittings. After some of research, I drew up a diagram of what I thought would work, but I wanted to get some help before I go order all this stuff (Its not cheap).

The ends of the fuel rails are -8an o-ring boss ports
The inlet/outlet of the FPR housing are -6an o-ring boss ports

Can I use the NPT to AN fittings in the diagram?

    Here is my diagram:

So the rails and the regulator are NPT? I would assume so and in that case youre correct

And awesome drawing/diagram by the way

Thanks, The ports are labeled on IEs website as -8an o-ring boss port and -6an o-ring boss port which is kind of my question..

    Does -8an o-ring port = 3/4 -16 NPT
    and -6an o-ring port = 9/16 - 18 NPT?

When I get a chance I'll see if I can find the part sizes I used.

NPT is totally different than -an size. If IE calls for a -8an O-ring fitting, that is what you must buy. Don't try and save money, it will just cost you more later on.

Awesome, thats the answer I was looking for, thanks..

So this is the fitting I would need to run the 90ºs out of the rails then correct?

At what power level single feed isn't enough anymore, is there any experience (in any platform?). I was going to feed both rails separately.

Not really. The AN fitting size is just how many sixteenths the OD is. So, a -8an fitting would be roughly equivalent to 1/2 NPT.

Ah, it says closest AN fitting Size. I would just stick with the -an size.

Looks about right. When I did my dual in-tank fuel pump set-up from SRM (their Kit,) I still spent a ton of money on extra fittings and lines as I wanted to run the stuff my way. It can get spendy quiet fast.

You can also do a 90 degree O-Ring fitting as well if you want to keep things a little tighter.

I'm confused. Doesn't he just want to use NPT adapters to go from NPT on the rail to AN lines? Nothing wrong with using adapters, just use ones with similar ID's.

Nevermind- I reread the OP. Yeah, you cant jam an NPT fitting into a AN thread! That will definitely leak. Need to keep it AN all the way around. I thought the rails had NPT threads on the ends.

    Sweet! Definitely got my answer.

Those 90º o-ring fittings look perfect. Thanks Justin!

Haha good thing this thread didn't get confusing.

If the rails/regulator are AN threads then you'll have to stick with that as NPT threads are tapered while AN are standard with a 37* flared mating surface

I wouldnt use 90s off the reg and feed.

    This is with 90s

This is with (iirc) 45s so I could route the lines along the firewall and out of the way.

There are only 2 things needed to make an Audi work properly - Duct tape and WD40. If it moves and it shouldn't - Duct tape. If it doesn’t move and it should - WD40.

This is what I did, 8AN feed to dual 6AN and 6AN return. Everything fits perfectly.
