    Strange "feature" in my 2016 A4?

    My 2016 A4 does this weird thing when I leave it running but parked, step out (with the key in my pocket) and come back 5 minutes later, I notice the e-brake is enabled and when I put it on drive, reverse or what not it wouldnt move.. Sometimes I cant even disable the e-brake and I have to turn the car off and on again. Is this some safety mechanism?

    I dont think it is strange. Im sure it is just some safety feature for whatever reason maybe so someone cant attempt to drive off with the car.

    I don't have the advanced key, but what happens if you leave the car key part in the car and remove the silver piece (which I assume would have your house key on it)? That may eliminate the issue.

    The 2015 I had for a loaner did the same thing. I had to disengage the parking brake in park if I left the car running with the keys in my pocket. I never had it not allow me to disengage, even if I would put it into gear first. I would simply put it back in park then turn off the e-brake.

    Mine does it. The car engages the e-brake as soon as I open the driver door with the car running. Always thought it was a nifty feature so you're not using the transmission as a brake.

    You don't even have to disengage the parking brake. Simply put it in gear and start to drive off slowly - it will automatically disengage as well.
