Hi Rob - hope you're doing well. I wanted to fill in the rest of the details here so that everyone reading this has the full picture of what happened in your situation.
Your situation, I think we can both agree, was a cluster of good/bad and "unique" issues. As you remember, your car was at our Lyndhurst shop during Hurricane Sandy, and was flooded, along with many other cars, when the Passaic River overflowed it's banks. The car was here for motor work, and the engine was out of the car and disassembled at the time. The motor was submerged during the flood, and the insurance company declared the car a total loss and paid out. We advised you numerous times to not keep or repair the car after salvage, but you decided against this and advised us to fix his car. You also left out details about the warranty claim, which we were able to get approved for you. I wanted to also note that you were in our loaner car at the time, which you put 5k miles on.
Ultimately the engine that was put into the car did, in the end, have a problem, likely due to the submersion in the flood. Before we commenced with the work, and on the paperwork at the end, we clearly noted there was no warranty on the motor due to the flood. Despite this, we went ahead and helped you with installing another bare short block you provided (this involved swapping everything over). The car was in our hands for some time due to our own fault and due to you requesting more items over time. The car sat at our place for longer than we would have liked - after you stated you found some damage to the car; we agreed to compensate you with a number that we both agreed what was fair. You had a subsequent issue with an A/C compressor - we supplied you with another.
This very unique case was unfortunate, and we regret the loss for the customer, the time it took to get the car sorted. However, this is certainly not the norm. We have never walked away from any customer and do our best to help anyone with any problem that may come up. We have built our reputation on this, and have received countless cars from customers that other shops walked away from. Again, I want to reiterate our apologies to Rob and the scenario but it was a very unique case; a "perfect storm" of events, if you will. Rob has not been to the shop since this event, which is his right, but you'll note that this occurred almost four years ago! In that time, we've helped thousands of satisfied customers, on everything from oil changes to timing jobs to motor rebuilds.
I don't want to derail this thread too far from OP's original request, but I wanted to fill in the details so Rob's complaint is on a level playing field.
